The Greater Lowell Area Skeptics Society (GLASS) is a community organization which promotes critical thinking and a reason-centered worldview by sharing the importance of skepticism in our society. We strive to know the difference between fact & fiction, science & pseudoscience, evidence-based-medicine & quackery. We care about protecting and educating consumers about harmful products and fraudulent practices. In association with other local and international skeptic organizations, we draw upon their extensive knowledge and resources and try to provide our own contributions.
We get together to talk, eat, drink, and be skeptical of things like alternative medicine, homeopathy, aliens, conspiracy theories, creationism, and psychics. If it lacks a basis in science and reason, we are skeptical. The term "skeptic" does not mean "cynic." Skepticism is a provisional approach to claims. Being "skeptical" means that we need to see compelling evidence to believe a claim.
Scientific skepticism helps us learn how to think critically about the world around us. Not just what to think or believe in.
This group was created to help educate its members and the public. We host monthly meetings and presentations, social gatherings, and discussions about activism in the community.
Please join us.
