How do you think of yourself: humanist, atheist, sceptic, agnostic, secularist, bright or other?

Atheist, secularist and admirer of humanist principles, though still cautious about whether the definition of 'big H' Humanist describes me.

Please say a little about yourself, your interest, work etc

I'm retired and now enjoying seeing more of this country (hence two home bases) having travelled widely overseas in my airline management career. I'm a news/current afffairs junkie and happy to sit apart from mainstream/unchallenged/conventional perspectives. Questioning everything, to the point of risking offence to those holding attitudes and beliefs I find offensive, is important to me. A psychologically abusive Jesuit education, and other encounters with gross abuse of power, have taught me to take nothing on trust, but also to believe there is the potential for good in all humans.

What are you passionate about? What are your priorities in life?

Challenging unwarranted privilege, tackling the abuse of power, defending rationalism and the scientific approach to the world's unknowns, valuing and supporting communities (especially of the under-privileged, the vulnerable and the sound-principled).

Please add a photo of your self to your profile (optional)

Will pass on that for now

Please separately email your email address to, so that we can send you the GMH newsletter

Member of BHA, NSS, Gr Manchester, Stockport and SW London Humanist groups, having homes in Bury and Surrey. Socialising is particularly important to me, and I truly appreciate the welcome these groups have offered.
