Building Business One Story at a Time

We all know that social media has changed how businesses communicate with current and potential customers, as well as each other, but occasionally lost in all of the buzzwords is the basic premise that all good communication is based in storytelling.

From the drawings on cave walls to the six-second Vine video, the most memorable communication tells a story of some sort. Effective storytelling takes into account the tenants of good writing, but also the somewhat predictable behaviors of the reader.

Whether our "story" is intended to inform, educate or entertain, some basic elements of storytelling can assist with developing content that prompts the connection towards the desired results.

To add another tip to what Gloria shared on story-telling in the digital age here's an interesting video by Gary Vaynerchuk. He points out that you have to be using today's and tomorrow's programs/platforms and not rely on old ways. For example, how much are TV commercials worth if everyone fast-forwards through them? How much as street-signs worth if everyone has their eyes on their smartphone as they walk? I find it interesting to note that even with all his tech, he chooses live public speaking as the way to share the story in the first place! For another example of a story, check out my friend Jen Groover (www.JenGroover.com). She has an array of products from books to purses to craft kits to jewelry. All of them are sold with a story of empowerment behind them.

The story of my company Network Now® is about women seeing and believing in their full potential so they can make an impact in the world. It's about overcoming fear and taking action. It's about collaboration and advocacy. It's what drives me and what attracts our ideal clients.

I enjoyed Gloria's take on creating fresh content. She's right -- every business has a story to tell, and should share it.

Gloria... captivating as usual. Hunter... when you rang the bell I flashed back to Catholic church and almost stood up. Sorry to bug out so early and miss all of the great networking. I'm looking forward to my next visit with everyone. Hopefully there... I want to get my big butt on the slide!

Gloria gave me what I was really in need of - fresh ideas for compelling content that attracts my target audience. Thanks, Gloria and AWeber. I loved the venue, too. I could spend a lot of time in that room, as a speaker or attendee.

Great meeting last night. Thank you Hunter Boyle and Aweber for hosting. Thanks Gloria for a very informative lecture with great content and take-aways that Chris and I can implement immediately into our Coaching practice. It was also nice to reconnect with some fellow colleagues that we haven't seen in a while and to meet some new ones! See everyone next month.

Great to be there and see some familiar faces and meet some new people too. Thanks, Gloria, for a lot of thought-provoking info on ways we can be more interesting with our content. Story is a big part of the work I do when I coach my clients on great public speaking and this was a reminder of other ways to use those important stories. Thanks!!!
