What Challenges Will 2014 Bring?

What will are the emerging challenges to separation of church and state?

Change can happen fast. Consider same sex marriage. Just a few years ago, skeptics thought that would never be legal. How things have changed!

A three-year surge in anti-abortion measures in more than half the states has altered the landscape for abortion access.

What is next? Prayer in city council meetings, the contraception mandate, New-vouchers, teaching Evolution, etc., all are all very current issues.

Bruce Adams will give a presentation that includes some past forecasts, some current charts and graphs and some opinions. Then it is your turn. The discussion will focus on the question: What issues, trends or potential battles do you see on the horizon in 2014 and beyond?

Don’t be bashful. Please bring your ideas, articles, etc to share.

Unfortunately, a very powerful right-wing block is pushing (quite successfully) in getting the myths of the Hebrew Scriptures back into general course work in many schools throughout the south and midwest. This is not about science or reason - just a straight on assault on anything that does not agree with the King James Bible. Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma and South Carolina (North Carolina and Kentucky are considering going in this direction) have all passed, or about to pass laws forcing even high schools to teach this rubbish. I look forward to hearing Ed's presentation in January.
