Grand Performances presents SongFest Sings America: Celebrating Leonard Bernstein at the wondrous Water Court with pre-concert conversation with Jamie Bernstein (composer's daughter) and Alan Chapman of KUSC. We'll be having a picnic prior to the concert and an after-party at Noe.
The evening treats audiences to several of the composer’s works, including the lush and lyrical Songfest: A Cycle of American Poets, premiering composer John Musto’s new two-piano arrangement, as well as selections from West Side Story, On the Town, and Candide. Featured musicians include cellist Andrew Shulman, pianist Musto, and acclaimed mezzo-soprano Susanne Mentzer. Special guest Jamie Bernstein provides narration throughout this celebration of her father’s rich musical legacy.
Celebrating 26 years of serving the people of Los Angeles, Grand Performances has become the foremost free concert series in L.A., presenting free performing arts that reflect the best of L.A.'s global culture.
The pre-concert picnic is where you'll make new friends and say "Hi" to old ones. A great way to meet someone is to offer them something! So... bring something to share! Finger eats such as charcuterie, salumi, cheeses, hummus, fresh produce such as veggies, grapes, dried fruits such as dates or nuts, olives or crackers, bread--foods that are easy to eat without utensils. And don't forget water. Also bring a jacket, blanket to sit on, and a flashlight.
Join us for bites and cocktails at the upscale Noe immediately following the concert. Noe is immediately adjacent to the Water Court. $5 valet parking with validation.
Check out the Grand Performance website for other details including directions and parking (or Metro) information.
This is cross-posted with LA Free Concerts Meet-up. Look for me, Heather, at the Starbucks with a white balloon that says 'Meet-Up' in red (instead of a regular meet-up sign) at 6pm. We will start walking toward Cal Plaza at ≈6:15pm.
