Poll: How much exposure do you have to classical music?

  • Nov 1, 2012 · 12:00 PM

Okay,  this is not a meetup--more like a chance for the people in this group to see where everyone else is coming from.

Please RSVP yes, and in the "add a comment" area, please enter your answer to the following question:

How much do you know about classical music?

1)  I don't know anything at all, but want to learn!

2)  I've been to a few performances

3)  I go to concerts regularly, and I have favorite composers and works

4)  Ask me anything about classical music!

So, for example, if you fall into #1, you would enter "1" in the "add a comment" section when you RSVP.

This poll will end at 12 pm on November 1st, 2012.

#1. I attend two LA Phil series and also the LA Opera series. I would like to add to my circle of friends who appreciate classical music and want to attend performances.

I would say between 3 or 4, depending on who is asking! I have degrees in music, but I wouldn't necessarily say ask me anything.....I play the piano so I know the most about that. I am excited to have just joined this group though and can't wait for some meet ups!

    Hi All,
I'd rate myself as a 2.5 to 3. My wife and I are KUSC supporters and have subscriptions to the LA Phil, Bowl ( classical Thurs.) and the LA Opera.

    4. Am a classical musician, primarily playing the pipe organ and piano and working with choirs and solo instrumentalists and vocalists. Organize the 3rd Sunday @3 Classical concert series at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Santa Monica. Oct. 21 you are invited to attend a free concert by the Los Angeles Flute Orchestra at 3 PM @ Mt. Olive. I shall play one piece "Jesu. Joy of Man's Desiring" by Bach with the orchestra. This past week I enjoyed an organ concert with strings in Echo Park Monday and Mozart's "Don Giovanni' at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Saturday.

In between 2 & 3. I listen to 91.5 all the time as it is my only station. However I do not remember any one's name or type of melody. I would love to learn more.

Listened to classical all my life, learned piano as a child, danced ballet for a long time. Since then, it's been a struggle to find people to attend with and I am not well educated, just wanting to learn more. 2.5

ill say im a 3. Its just within the past couple of years ive been getting into classical music, as my taste in music has slowly matured. I love Chopin and enjoy pieces from romantic period. I also love cello pieces and fell in love with the sound of cello since the first time I saw a live performance a few years ago. even bought my own cello and am trying to learn it.

#3. Developed the love through participation in high school concert choirs, then college, and onward. Cannot imagine existing in a world without the three primary composers who have colored my life since then: Bach, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky.
