Let’s hike the Ignacio Valley Open Space Preserve

Join us for a hike through the Marin County Ignacio Valley Open Space Preserve in Novato. The hike consists of 3 segments. The first two segments follow dry streambeds mostly in the shade. The last segment offers an open view of Big Rock Ridge.

Approximate Duration and Distance: It’s easy to participate in 1, 2, or 3 segments of this hike. Each segment ends back at the trailhead. First segment – one half hour; 0.6 miles. Second segment – 1 hour; 1.6 miles. Third segment – 1 hour; 2 miles.

Trailhead: End of Fairway Drive in Novato

Route: First segment – 200 feet of climbing on a 0.6 mile unnamed trail in a “tucked away” drainage (we’ll see the oldest largest alder trees in Novato). Second segment – 200 feet of climbing on a 1.6 mile unnamed trail to a small waterfall (probably dry). Third segment – 550 feet of steep climbing (1 up; 1 down) on an unnamed fire road to a fabulous view.

Preserve Map: http://www.marincounty.org/~/media/Images/Departments/PK/Open%20Space/Lucas%20Valley/BigRockRidgeArea_%2001_19_10.ashx

Gear: Bring water, snack, sturdy footwear, and weather appropriate clothing

Weather: Rain does not cancel

See you there!

Not very long, but challenging on the 3 rd leg, especially with the heat!

I got confused you have a Santa Rosa home town, I was low on energy at the, should have had more breakfast, feel good now, heat and the bike ride before hand. Have a nice Sunday

Great hike Michael and John. Glad I did the third segment. It was grueling for me but the view at the top was well worth it.

I'm up for going even if there's a red flag warning. Red flag doesn't mean that the trail is closed. I called last time. Is anyone else up for going even if a red flag is posted?

It doesn't look like there will be a red flag warning. See you tomorrow!

This hike seems to attract the hot weather. Last time cancelled for fire danger. I'll pray for rain, or water my lawn to guarantee rain.

Bruce: for what it is worth, I did wash my car today.

Bruce's watered lawn, Andy's washed car, could be Torrential Rain! Blame Andy. Lol.
