Originally inspired by Midtown Writers, a few members have decided to bring the same approach to the Green Line. It has become nationally known that the Twin Cities is the third most literate metropolitan area in the nation. With that in mind we should appreciate the fact there are a lot of us that maintain great appreciation for the literary arts.
Our focus is to write, by writers, aspiring to be heard. That is our format; yes it is that simple.
We meet weekly each Saturday from 9 am – 11 am. There is no fee and there are no entry requirements. We only ask that you bring a writing utensil or notebook. We stress on handwritten composition as our primary medium, but if you are visually or physically impaired we are prepared to make an exception for you.
Members are allowed to lead each meeting based on the manner in which they register for the role. There is no strict criterion for becoming an event facilitator. We only ask each person to be comfortable speaking and monitoring the flow of the group. The event facilitator is there to make sure the group stays on track. Further details can be provided at our first meeting.
During each meeting, we start with a brief warm up. From that point onward, we write to random prompts. A timeframe is agreed on after the prompt is selected. Then the composition process begins! Once the time finishes those willing to read their freshly written work are given the opportunity to do so in a rotational manner.
That process continues until our first ten minute break which occurs one hour after the first warm up.
The following cannot be stressed enough: WE DON’T CRITIQUE. YOU WRITE, YOU SHARE, AND PASS IT ON. Green Line Writers is not about critiquing we are about writers writing.
Many of us at Midtown Writers believed that writers spend too much time talking about writing without actually writing. As two collaborative bodies, we are prepared to break that stigma and engage the literary community by writing first and thinking about it later. No, we haven’t proclaimed that to be an original idea!
At present, we haven’t yet established a permanent location for the group. Our first meeting will be held at either the Black Dog in Lower-Town in Downtown St. Paul or at the Caribou Coffee right outside of the Target Field Station. A location will be announced once the first meeting is assembled.
All and any upcoming location for the group will be located somewhere along the Green Line with total ease of accessibility; hence the name of the group. We look forward to seeing you there!
Our motto: It can be true, maybe it's true, figure it out!
