Are you going to be alone for a major holiday? Or a lot of them? Our society seems to live for holidays, but they're not much fun if you're left out.
The exclusive nature of this group--really ALONE, not with a partner or family member--comes from my personal experiences of being alone on holidays.
Some time after my divorce, my children moved to different parts of the country. Then my parents died. As a shy person, I had no close friends. All the decorations, songs, ads, and happy happy happy of the holidays made me miserable. I felt like I must be really messed up to not be included.
If there had been a group like this one, I probably would have attended and been less unhappy. If it included couples and families, I would have just felt more alone.
From now on, the restaurant is going to be inexpensive, so that more people will be able to attend. No entertainment afterward will be planned, but attendees can discuss going to a movie, or mall-walking, or whatever appeals.
Basically, this meetup is just an opportunity for people who are alone on Thanksgiving or Christmas to share a meal with other people in the same situation.
If anyone wants to plan something for holidays other than Thanksgiving or Christmas, I'd be happy to make that possible.
