HIKE: Foothills Trail-Horsepasture River to Canebrake Access

  • Meet at the boat loading pier

  • What:  Join us for a day hike along the Foothills Trail across the north end of Lake Jocassee.  We will meet at the Devil's Fork State Park pier and take the 20-25 min boat shuttle up to the FT Horsepasture River crossing.  We'll then hike East to the Canebrake Access and take the boat shuttle back to the pier.  Shuttle will be provided by Jocassee Lake Tours - always a great ride with tons of information about the Lake and the scenery along the way. Expect to see lots of migratory waterfowl on the lake this time of year, including loons, grebes and maybe even a bald eagle. And a waterfall or two, of course. You can't come to Lake Jocassee and not see waterfalls.

Hike info:  This hike is right about 8 mi and is rated moderate/difficult because of the length.

Other info:  Bring along a lunch for the hike plus beverages of your choice and snacks for the return leg of the shuttle.  You may leave a small cooler on the boat for the return ride. Be sure to watch the weather and wear layers accordingly. The boat ride may be breezy, so bring whatever you need to stay warm.

RESERVATIONS WITH A CREDIT CARD ARE REQUIRED. Jocassee Lake Tours does not charge the card until the day of the event, just in case weather becomes a problem that day. Call[masked] to reserve your spots

I'd suggest dressing in layers you can peel off or put on as temps gets warmer or cooler throughout the day. The overnight temp will be pretty cold, so you'll need to bundle up for the boat ride. Bring snacks and lunch and water. You can leave a cooler on the boat for drinks, etc on ride back to pier. Brooks only takes max 1 beer from each cooler left on the boat.... LOL

What is the usual time frame for this hike? Trying to figure out our pets arrangements in the case of late return.
