• Ruby+Elixir Meetup with Lightning Talks
Dear members of Groningen.rb and Elixir |> Groningen, We have missed you! And you might very well have missed us as well. It has been very long since the last editions of the Ruby and Elixir meetups have been held. We have been very busy with a couple of tremendously exciting but time-consuming projects. Really nice, but we could have kept you informed better than we did; our sincere excuses for this. **Now, it is time to kick-start a new season of awesome meetups!** On the **17th of May**, at 19:00, you are welcome to join us at the Mauritsstraat 1 for the first new meetup. This meetup will be a combined Elixir and Ruby meetup, without one speaker, but instead a round of Lightning Talks! What is a Lightning Talk, you might ask? A Lightning Talk is a short presentation of no more than five minutes that can be about anything you think the other attendees might find interesting. You might plan for this, but doing it spontaneously is also an option. Besides this, the rest of the evening will be a nice opportunity to catch up with everyone (and maybe meet some new people?). **We'll bring drinks and snacks for you all!** See you there, Wiebe-Marten and Rene from Panache/Resilia

Oh yeah! The next Ruby Meetup is happening! Willian van der Velde is going to talk about using GraphQL with a Rails application, and how HackerOne started using it. This will be the last Ruby meetup before the summer break (in the summer break, we might host a drinks-evening but not a formal meetup), so be sure to come!

Oh yeah! The next Ruby Meetup is happening! Yannick Forget is going to talk about using front-end build tools to make the management of your (S)CSS and JS assets easier, and how to use these instead of, or in combination with, Rails' built-in Sprockets system. And of course, there will be plenty of time to converse, eat snacks and drink some drinks.

Oh yeah! The next Ruby Meetup is happening! On 23 Feb, Wiebe-Marten Wijnjais going to talk about writing simple parsers in Ruby. Furthermore, Tim Raasveld will have a short talk about his Rubygem-in-development called Sidedock (https://github.com/timraasveld/sidedock), which allows automating starting/stopping Docker-containers to write more maintainable integration tests. (Ruben Homs was going to talk about his project called surprisedinner.nl (https://surprisedinner.nl/), which runs on Rails, but unfortunately he had to cancel his presentation.)

Bring you own laptop Christmas edition Like every year, we are going to solve Christmas programming puzzles. This year we are helping Santa to find the stolen stars. As Santa mentioned in his letter to us: "Santa's sleigh uses a very high-precision clock to guide its movements, and the clock's oscillator is regulated by stars. Unfortunately, the stars have been stolen... by the Easter Bunny. To save Christmas, Santa needs you to retrieve all fifty stars by December 25th." You can start helping Santa right now at https://adventofcode.com but we're going to bundle our forces during this meetup to come up with different solutions. See you December 20th in Launch Café! Ivan P.S. We're not limited to Ruby ;)
