What we're about

Calling adventurers and outdoorsy thrill-seekers! I'm vacationing in Zion during the week of September 10th to 14th and I'm looking to put together a like minded little group of avid hikers to book a group canyoneering (rappelling and hiking) tour of the amazing, sinuous slot canyons in and around the National Park.

The plan is to book a group half-day trek on September 10th for 6 people (the max size for this group) with one of the various canyoneering tour groups that operate out of the park. Each participant will pay approximately $110 to $125 for the experience. Here's an example of one of the tour groups and details on what's involved: https://reddesertadventure.com/zion-canyoneering-half-day/

I will make arrangements with the tour group for all participants to submit their payments separately, directly to the company. Payments to the company will be non-refundable, so be sure you can make it! As you'll see, even if we don't hit the critical max of 6 to get the lowest price, we'll only each have to pay 20 or so dollars more at most. Additional expenses, will of course include your park entry fee ($25, unless you have an annual pass), and costs for camping or accommodations.

So, a little about you and then a little about me:

ABOUT YOU: As I'd like to make the most of the experience, I'm encouraging only folks who are in good shape, and who are athletic enough to keep up on a strenuous hike, to apply. The hikes, as you'll see, include rigorous rock scrambles and rappelling. So if that doesn't seem like your cup of tea, this probably won't be a good fit. Ideally, you'll have experience doing (and digging!) similarly rigorous hikes, but rappelling experience is not necessary. If you have any hiking buddies, feel free to encourage them to join the group too. Oh, and since you'll be spending the day hanging out with strangers, you should also probably be fairly outgoing and easy to get along with :). Equipment wise, you should also have some basic hiking gear like proper shoes, comfortable athletic clothes, and a backpack.

ABOUT ME: I'm 36, I live in Brooklyn, NY, and I've been an avid hiker since my grandad first started taking me out on the trails as a kid. I've trekked through nearly a dozen national parks from Death Valley, to Yellowstone, to Acadia. While I've never done any long distance, multi-week treks, or major mountain summits, I'm able to keep a solid pace on fairly rigorous trails. Most recently I knocked out a 5 - 6 hour rated trail in Yosemite in about 3.5 hours, while still managing to get in a swim and take in the scenery over lunch. :)

Other than that, I run a small video production company, do some writing on the side, and keep myself active in the concrete jungle with running and kickboxing. I'm also a little bit of a political junkie who volunteers with the local Democratic Socialists of America chapter, and various causes on behalf of the resistance. (So, oh yeah, you're also ideally the kind of person who wants to keep our public lands public, protected, and well funded. Jus' sayin'.)
