Winter Haven Pub Crawl & Hang Gliding...

Hello Jan, We took the boat out to the Winter Haven Chain on Saturday and it was a blast. I forgot how much fun those lakes are...pulling up on the tire island to watch the Legoland ski show, lots of cool canals, restaurants...yada yada. Anyway, while cruising one of the restaurants, a big party barge flagged me over after noticing my hang gliding equipment and former Cypress Gardens Air/Show Manager, Brian Voisard, invited us to a hang gliding competition they are doing on March 30th. Basically, they are using two tow boats ( three with mine ) to run pilots through various tasks. The tasks will take the pilots through the lakes of Winter Haven and Mark predicts it will be a veritable flotilla of skiers/boaters/partyers following along the route.

This seems like something You would be into, so if you're available and interested, come on out and join us. Live Large!

Google Map on my laptop and my droid takes me to 1500 EAST, not West, Lake Summit Drive on the east side of the lake. The ramp is on the southwest side of the lake, so you may need look at your map and navigate as needed.

Will the ten ramps at William G Roe Park on the southeast corner of Lake Shipp work? Looks like access to Lake Lulu then access to Lake Eloise and Cypress Gardens/Legoland. https://public.myfwc.com/LE/boatramp/public/Ramp.aspx?FacilityID=PO00021JM

Looks like actual location is a bit north west from what Google Maps gives when you load the address

The Winter Haven chain is one of my favorite boating spots but water levels and canal depths can be challenging there these days. Here's the skinny on it.... Lake Summit boat ramp is a single ramp with limited parking however it is deep water ramp on spring fed lake with sandy area to pull up onto. Also canal is shallow but navigable to Lake Eloise. (FYI - I have a I/O with a 3' draft). Canal access from Lake Eloise to Lake Lulu is shallow but navigable as well. Canal access from Lake Lulu to Lake Shipp is much shallower. I can not get through and there is junk on bottom of canal my prop has hit before. If you have 2' or less draft, you should be able to get through.

      Cont.
The big boat ramp on Lake Shipp has lots of parking but ramp is not very long (my dual axel trailer had rear tires off ramp for me to get boat back on last time I tried). Also, water is not very deep there and had hump of sand just past launch area from power loading/unloading. Canal access from Lake Shipp to Lake May and Lake Howard should be easy to get through. Around the canal from May to Howard is where there are bars on the water. I believe there was a restaurant being remodeled / reopened on Lake Shipp. Not sure if its open yet. I hope this info helps the boaters be prepared and aware! Wish I could make this trip but I am headed out of town. Have fun!!!!

I zoomed in on the satellite view of the map link and do not see a boat ramp. Where is one?

Not sure about the details of the hang gliding part yet...but the Winter Haven Chain is a fun pub crawl. The Legoland Ski Show is 1pm and is fun to watch from the boat.
