Okay. So, I have come up with a purse pattern that I am willing to walk everyone through making. Make it for yourself or cross a Holiday gift off of your list. It is a cross over bag that is made specifically so the strap can be fed through one D-ring and clipped back on the other side so it is a shoulder bag.
Meetup won't let me post pictures of the purse. So, here is a link to the post in our Facebook forum. (which if you aren't a part of, you should be! ;) ) If you aren't on Facebook, comment, and I will private message you the photos. Look for the Star Wars purse on our page! https://www.facebook.com/groups/gwinnettgeekgirls/
Every person that comes will take home hard plastic pattern pieces so that once they have made it once with my help, they will be able to continue making them at home. I will also have a typed tutorial to go with the pattern. On top of providing you with the already cut out pattern pieces, I will provide you with the magnet closure, the (silver colored) D-rings and the swivel clasps for the purse you make here. I will also have Stitch Witchery, pins and clips for you to use. It will take approximately 5 hours to make, and I'll be walking you through it step by step. If you can sew a straight line, you can make this. I promise. Need help with things like threading your machine? Come 30 min early and I can help you with that. Cost is $15.
You will need:
1/2 a yard of the main fabric for the outside
1.5 yards of a matching secondary fabric for the top of the outside of the purse, the strap and the lining. (If you would like to use a 3rd fabric for the lining you can, get a half of a yard of it, but because of the length of the strap, you will still need 1.5 yards of the secondary fabric.)
1.5 yards of ShapeFlex 101. It is a stabilizer. You can find it at both Hobby Lobby and JoAnn Fabrics.
a 7" zipper that matches your purse
thread that matches your purse
Your sewing machine with an empty bobbin for your thread if needed (should you really like to do this, but don't currently have a sewing machine, send me a message and you may be able to use one of mine since I won't be sewing, but instead teaching during this event.)
An iron (We will need an ironing board for every 2 people. So, if you have one you can bring speak up.)
A good pair of scissors and a rotary cutter. If you have a cutting mat, bring that too. I have a couple rotary cutters if you don't already have one, speak up. Once they are claimed for use, people will need to buy their own if they don't have them because everyone will need them, which isn't a bad thing. You want a good rotary cutter. Trust me.
We'll take a short break in there for dinner. I'll make spaghetti. Past that, there are places that deliver to my house or feel free to bring your dinner with you when you come.
*Because of the nature of this project, I am ending RSVP's and refunds one week prior. I will have already ordered the supplies and started at cutting out all the pattern pieces for everyone at that point. If something happens and you cannot make it, you will have a package of stuff waiting for you when you can pick it up. I am only a phone call away should you run into trouble, and you can always come over and craft one night with me where I can help you when you need it.*
BE ON TIME TO THIS EVENT! IN FACT, BE A FEW MINUTES EARLY THAT WAY YOU CAN GET SET UP AND BE READY TO GO! THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT WILL BE EASY TO CATCH UP WITH.
Refunds offered if:
Payments you make go to the organizer, not to Meetup. You must make refund requests to the organizer.
