How About the Sisters, Mister?

  • Mar 30, 2014 · 9:00 AM

You have had plenty of advance notice for this ride and the weather looks good, so I had better see you at the  Valero on Sunday morning.  BTW, they have Texas Pecan coffee right next door at the Exxon.

The three sisters involve a lot of technical turns, blind hills, blind curves, and road hazards which require a rider to be focused and experienced in order to ride.  However we are going to go stop sign to stop sign.  The route is relatively easy, so we will have the faster paced people up front and the slower ones toward the back. Thay way, everyone can ride their own ride.  Though the map says it will take six hours and change, it will take all day--All day.

1050 is paved the entire way now,so we will be riding it on the way back.

I worked up an itinerary based on leaving and travel times to plan by. Big trip, and some of us may be dropping off as the ride goes on. I thought this would help.

9:15 a.m. KSU @ Valero on 12998 Bandera Rd in Helotes
Arrive Bandera Exxon station 1507 Cypress St, Bandera @ 10:00 a.m.  (Northerners meet us here)
Leave Bandera @ 10:15 a.m.
Arrive Leakey, Lunch at Bent Rim @11:20 a.m.
Leave on Sisters routes @ 12:15 p.m.
Meet back at Stripes in Leakey @ 2:20 p.m.
Leave for Bandera: @ 2:45 p.m.
Arrive Bandera Beverage Barn: @ 4:00 p.m.

Gas: at Valero where ride begins in San Antonio, Exxon at Bandera 32 miles from San Antonio start, then Leakey 50 miles from there, Then lunch, then the loop, and a stop at the Beverage Barn in Bandera where there are beverages of choice and a really nice covered pavilion on the river. From there, we head in the general direction of San Antonio where people peel off on the way.

In case you haven't ridden in groups, or it has been awhile since you have, Click here for a guide on how to ride in groups.

House rules:  No limits on reservations.  I watch the weather before we go.  If it is too wet at leaving time in San Antonio, or Bandera and Leakey for the times we arrive there, we reschedule.  We gather where there is coffee.  Pre-ride brief begins at 9.  We leave at 9:15. Passengers need not RSVP.

Here's the Route: http://goo.gl/maps/vEJVV

Total Miles: 264

Planned stops at the Exxon Station in Bandera on the way out and the Stripes store in Leakey.  Then, once more at Leakey to eat at the Bent Rim Grill or a place of your choice and to gas up before and after doing the sisters.

No one was there. We had the road and the Bent Rim practically to ourselves. Go figure.
