#HNLondon, July 2013

We have some awesome talks in store for you at this event.

Adam Hupp (Facebook) - Live at Facebook.   A few stories about what one engineer has learned building realtime features at Facebook scale.
James Singleton - Hack of the Month:  Raspberry Pi Electricity Monitor
Nic Ferrier - Wear sunscreen (and don't gold plate) - Lean Engineering means finishing shit
Darragh Browne - Bitcoin 101: An introduction to Bitcoin
Stef Lewandowski - Hack, Play, Learn

The event will be compered by Sanderson Jones and accompanied by tons of free beer and pizza.

Normally quite a few people head to the Windmill pub after. It's on the corner of Tabernacle St and Epworth St. http://www.thewindmillinthecity.com/

We would like to thank our sponsors for their support

Secret Sales: When you finish a feature, can you release it with confidence right away, or do you have to wait days or weeks to find out what users think? Secretsales uses continuous delivery to get super-rapid feedback on all the features we build for our busy, successful online shopping site. In addition, we are a team of generalising specialists, ready at the drop of a hat to refine an algorithm, write a tricky integration test, tune a SQL query, or discuss feature nuances with a product manager. We hold regular retrospectives to improve our working environment and lightning talks to share cool ideas whether work-related or not. Write to our CTO Squirrel at [masked] to find out more about jobs at Secretsales.

I feel I should say that while I had a great time talking to people and while some of the talks were very interesting, in some respects the meetup did not deliver quite as well as I would have expected, esp. given the ticket price. £6 and sponsors should get you more than one slice of mediocre pizza and warm beer.. I'd feel bad writing this if it was just me, but many of the other attendants I talked to felt the same, so I guess it's worth getting the feedback out!

I understand that the room probably costs a fair bit of money, but compromising on beer and pizza is not cool; I'd even be happy to pay a bit more (up to £10) for better sustenance.

Actually, I'm trying to think where else in Shoreditch, or in Central London, where you could get a can of beer and a slice of pizza for less than £6...

Good event but would prefer the headline speaker to come first rather than last.

Agreed length was pretty OK. I seriously thought we were done after the first half though. Might be good to always assume there's new people in the room and tell them there's more after the break.
