Maine Kennebec Valley Snowmobile Cabin Weekend: Best Snowmobiling In The East!

  • Mar 14, 2014 · 5:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

North Country Rivers base resort complex located in the upper Kennebec Valley Region of Maine, is renowned for having "the best snowmobiling in the east". This region receives an annual snowfall of over 10-feet!  The region also contains some of the most beautiful and pristine wilderness in the United States.

Our resort base complex is located right on Maine's Interconnecting Trail System (the ITS). This system is comprised of approximately 13,000 miles of groomed trails; stretching to all the way to Canada. The North Country Rivers base complex in Bingham, Maine, is on the ITS 87 portion of this trail system. Our location, and being in proximity to this portion of the ITS, allows us to ride north to the Forks and Jackman (and into Canada), west to the Rangeley Lakes region, and even northeast to the Moosehead Lake region (and even Baxter State Park). This trail, and the many feeder trails, simply offer hundreds and hundreds of miles of open terrain, incredible scenery, unlimited trip potential, and awesome riding for all skill levels.

2 nights cabin lodging and 1 full-day snowmobile rental (1 person snowmobile) is $341 per person, including all taxes and fees. Add $30 for snowsuit rentals (bibs, jacket, boots, gloves).

North Country Rivers rents Ski-Doo 600 4-stroke snowmobiles, they are quiet, have no emissions and get 30 miles to the gallon.

•Snowmobiles come with heated hand warmers, electric start and reverse.
•Helmets, trail maps, and a full tank of gas are included with the snowmobile rental.
•Sleds must be returned with a full tank of gas.
•Top of the line apparel can be rented for $30 per person per day (bibs, jacket, boots, and gloves), all sizes available.
•A $30 per hour fee will be charged for late returns
•$1,000 deposit per sled is required for rentals. We will hold the deposit on any major credit card. Also, everyone renting a snowmobile must understand and sign a release form as well as a snowmobile rental contract.  All renters are responsible for any damage done to a sled.

I would like to get at least 8-10 people to go but more are welcome since there are bigger cabins. I have to book this soon so only sign up if you are serious since they require a 50% deposit for the entire reservation, with the balance due 45 days before the trip date.

It turns out my Garmin GPS was working the whole time in my backpack so I did capture the entire path we rode. I uploaded a still picture of it but if you want the KMZ file so you can load it into Google Earth and zoom in and explore the area we rode just let me know and I can email it to you.

It was fun ridding with everyone. We could not have asked for better conditions with the two feet of new snow a few days before the trip, good weather for the travel days and warm temps for Saturdays ride. We did 121 miles which is a long day even for a seasoned snowmobiler and yet the beginners did great. We only had to pull three sleds out of the deep snow which is not bad for the day and that's just part of the fun. I look forward to doing this trip again next year.

Look forward to do it again and hope having same snow and weather condition. Thank you Glenn!

I use the term restaurant loosely. It's for drinking and fried/buffalo sauce things.

Guys, since I'd be packing heavy given camera gear and all, and would like to leave in morning, I've decided to drive my own car. Would be fine taking any passengers on the way back.

    March 12, 2014

  • Matt

As of right now, this looks like best case scenario! Looking like almost 2 feet of fresh cold powder and than a rise to above freezing for Saturday. (If I got this right)... :)

    March 12, 2014

    • Glenn

Yes the weather is setting this up for a true Maine winter experience. Heavy snow Wednesday to Thursday morning. Friday is looking to be a good travel day with a possible dusting of snow at night. Saturday high of 41 and low of 19 with light snow. Sunday clear for ride home.

      1 · March 12, 2014

  • Rona

Matt, can I get back to u if u prefer to drive yours on Friday?

    March 11, 2014

    • Matt

      Sure

      March 11, 2014

  • Matt

Can everyone confirm who they are riding with?

    March 10, 2014

    • Glenn

Matt - If we time it right we can meet on 95 at the Connecticut Welcome Center after exit 12 and move some luggage/people into my car.
If I leave my area around 9:30-10am I should be there by 12.

      1 · March 11, 2014

    • Matt

I'm ok with that Glenn. I'll work to accommodate your thorough organizational skillz.

      March 11, 2014

  • Rona

My car has a simple two rails roof rack. I assume we are able to leave 12pm if everything goes smoothly. So, can Queens/LI meet in my area? Take my car, because I believe I have more stuff than guys. We can switch seats and driver on the way down.

    March 11, 2014

  • Rona

Sorry for off line a few days. I am ok to drive my car ( AWD Kia Sportage ) and it can fit another two persons. Matt, u can drive to my area which is on LIE 32 and not far from you and Wasif. We either take mine or yours. One question to Glenn, do u still like to pass through Queens? Is Jay more convenient to take a ride in Queens or NJ?

    March 10, 2014

    • Glenn

Jay I can give you & Greg a ride back.

      March 11, 2014

    • Jay

Lets do that then- I'll meet Greg and Sania at new haven train station at 3pm, this way the 4 people who all live near each other can take one car, and I can get a half day of work in. Best solution I think. See you guys at 3, Thanks! Of course will chip in for gas etc....

      March 11, 2014

  • Glenn

With more people joining we are going to have a good crew. Now it looks like we have a good amount of people who can be drivers coming from the city. I will be picking up Steve first since he lives near me and then I can pickup others if needed but with more possible drivers in the city it would be easier to arrange rides with those people. If anyone rides up with Sania they can ride back with me.

    March 7, 2014

  • Matt

For some reason I can't make sense of all of this...lol. I'm definitely going. I'm exit 39 lie. I have awd Subaru sedan. (If needed) and would like to leave earlier rather than later.

I propose two solutions. 1. Everyone take PT and meet at bayside location 2. I scoop everyone from Brooklyn/Queens in my car and we'll meet at Great Neck station instead, where I can park overnight. This is exit 33 on 495.

      March 7, 2014

  • Rona

I checked the meeting spot this afternoon. Would like to give (7-8)/10 score. No street regulation , a little bit quite, next to a busy street-Northern blvd, it is surrounded by single houses(approx$700,000 house) in 2-3 blocks, farther out it is 2-4 floors co-op buildings- not far from BAYSIDE STATION of LIRR. I took a few pictures, will post on my profile.

    March 6, 2014

    • Rona

Couldn't load the picture. Probably there is no enough street light b/c the trees. However, there is a few more spots along with 295 highway before the Thro Neck Bridge.

The outfitter sent me an email today saying that our lodging has been upgraded to a Flagstaff Cabin which is the biggest ones they have.

Ya, don't worry about the car pool situation just yet, these are very weak "Maybe's".

Cooking is an awesome idea Glenn. I'll be happy to add to the mix.

      March 6, 2014

I have a car too, I can fit 3 passengers. Leaving from Bushwick, can leave anytime Friday. I would like to carpool, either my car or someone else's, either way is fine with me.

    February 25, 2014

  • Matt

I have a car or can hop in with someone. I've been quiet. because there is a chance I won't show due to a friends health. If anyone would like to be on standby let me know.

      Thx

      February 21, 2014

  • Glenn

I heard back from the outfitter and they still have lodging available for that weekend in March and sleds for rent as well.
I need to put down a deposit ASAP so if you are still interested in going you'll need to send me 1/2 of the payment by February 7th.

The two options are half day rental for $281 or full day for $341.
Both options include the 2 nights cabin lodging.

Conditions are in great shape. We have a rock solid base that is sure to stay into late March and 2-3in of fresh snow on top. The trails are flat and have plenty of lubrication with more snow forecasted on its way!

You can send through PayPal [masked] and pick option "I'm sending money to family or friends" so I'm not charged the fee.

    February 2, 2014

    • Glenn

Ok Matt that's good. Greg you can sign up & send payment. Matt & I are doing the full day of snowmobiling. Anyone else on the list going please confirm & send payment.

Good News it looks like they are giving us the bigger cabin so there is plenty of space. It sleeps up to 24. Here is a link to the cabin info and floor plan: http://www.northcount...

Hi Glenn. Haven't done snowmobiling before, but very excited to try it.

Planning to bring my camera. Quick question. Do you think carrying a 10-12lbs backpack all day will pose problems given it being a bumpy ride and all?

Also, was in Baxter last year. Very beautiful place..loved it!

If you're bringing your Jeep, that would be great. BTW, I'll come from LI (close to Throggs neck brg)

      February 20, 2014

    • Glenn

Sounds good we can figure out a stop to meet along 95. Maybe there is a commuter lot.

      February 20, 2014

  • Rona

Looking forward. Having an experience of driving motorcycle… would it help to get on quickly?

    February 17, 2014

    • Glenn

Its a little more like a wave runner but you will figure it out fine. We are doing the full day so for a beginner it would be a long day but there will be stops along the way. I except the trails to be smooth for the first have and then they get bumpy as the day goes on. You could feel it in your back and legs by the end of the day but its worth it. I just did an 85 mile ride in VT this past weekend and the conditions were great.

      February 18, 2014

  • Glenn

I booked the cabin and sleds. I will email more info out to those that already paid. I am moving those who have not paid to the waiting list. There is room for a few more to join us so just contact me if interested.

    February 11, 2014

  • Jay

I just paid for full day. Just did some snowmobiling over new years up in Fryeburg ME., can't wait to hit the trails again!

    February 8, 2014

  • Glenn

I'm waiting to hear back from the outfitter to make sure this weekend is still available. There are two options for snowmobiling half day or full. If you never snowmobiled I recommend the half day which is 4 hours. Half of course will also be cheaper.
    Half Day (8:30 am - 12:30 pm or 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm)
    Full Day (8:30 am - 4:30 pm)

    January 31, 2014

    • Matt

      Either is fine with me
