CLOTHING: You don't need to buy a new wardrobe before you hit the trail, but you'll need a few basics to stay safe and comfortable. While you don't need the most expensive gear, avoid cotton: it's a poor insulator when wet, making you feel colder and increasing your risk of hypothermia. Look for synthetic or wool materials instead. Warm, insulating layer: fleece jacket. Wear insulating layer that provides warmth if it gets chilly. Waterproof/ wind-proof layer: This includes both rain/wind jackets and hiking or rain pants. The jacket will keep you warm and dry on windy ridges and rainy days, and the pants will keep you warm and protected from brush and mud. Optional but the temperature may drop when we get to the peak and body temps drop when not walking. Socks: Hiking-specific socks offer more cushioning and breath-ability than cotton tube socks and protect them from blisters (particularly important on long hikes).
Shoes: Comfortable with good grip.

What to put inside your backpack:

1. At least 2L of water 2. Snack and Lunch (Fruits, nuts, sandwich) 3. Extra shirt and socks 4. First aid kit (if you have any) 5. Headlamp (just in case we hit night time) optional 6. Camera to take cool shots of nature 7. Map 8. Sunscreen 9. Bug Spray 10. Sunglasses Please use #nyhoagies and #connect2disconnect when posting your awesome pictures on instagram.

(Let's celebrate our great hike and cinco de mayo afterwards @ Conco De Mayo Restaurant. Yes! There is a Cinco De Mayo Restaurant not too far from the trail head and they are really good. :))
