Jan is Chief Talent Officer at Sidewalk Labs whose mission is to improve life in cities through the application of technology to solve urban problems. Previously Jan was Head of Recruiting at Oscar, where he helped the company grow from 100 to 400+ people. He has recruited for growth companies in Germany and the U.K. before coming to NYC in 2014. Originally from Germany, Jan studied International Affairs in Switzerland. He enjoys photography and travel, and lives in Brooklyn with his wife.

Neil believes in a distinctive approach to recruiting and hiring top talent.     Great panel yesterday and excellent questions. In case you were interested in some resources available to address bias in hiring, here are several things to check out. You'll have to search for them as it won't let me insert links.

    - Blindspot: Hidden Bias of Good People - a great book introduction to implicit bias, including self-discovery exercises.

    - Gender Bias "De-Coder" for Job Descriptions - a simple tool that highlights the way the wording of job descriptions can be gendered.

    - "Interrupting Interview Bias by Eric Burke" A short video on interrupting bias in interviews - by and Engineer and aimed at Engineers
