Founded in 2001, the Housatonic Valley Paddle Club (HVPC) is an eclectic group of active paddlers who enjoy exploring the various waterways of the Housatonic Valley and other areas of upper Fairfield County and Litchfield County.

Our goal is to bring together fellow paddlers of all skill levels and paddle in an environmentally friendly manner while enjoying the camaraderie of those with similar interest. We schedule various types of activities throughout the year: paddling, camping and picnicking in the warm seasons; hiking, bowling, and dining when it's too cold to paddle.

Most of HVPC's paddle outings tend to be comfortably-paced, moderate-distance excursions on flat water; and are a good venue for newer paddlers, or those who just enjoy quiet, low-key paddles with lots of socializing.

We welcome paddlers of all levels and interests. If you don’t yet have a boat, we can guide you as to what to buy or rent, along with the required necessities, such as paddles and PFDs. An annual skills workshop is held every year on Mt. Tom Pond and has proven helpful for novices as well as more experienced paddlers.

Some of our favorite venues include Candlewood Lake (pre-Memorial Day and post-Labor Day), Lake Waramaug, the Lake Lillinonah and Lover's Leap sections of the Housatonic, Lake McDonough and Mt. Tom Pond. Bantam Lake, Bantam River, the Twin Lakes, and New York State's Great Swamp are also visited on a regular basis.

While we are an easy-going group, we take safety seriously. PFDs and whistles must be worn when paddling with the club. A signed release of liability is also mandatory.  Note that the Housatonic Valley Paddle Club, its organizers, and its members assume no legal and or civil responsibility for or to any individual or event. Your personal safety is your responsibility alone. You are responsible for determining if your physical conditioning, skills and equipment are adequate for the venue and conditions.

NOTE: for the safety of our members, we do require that you have a recognizable profile picture.
