This is Laughter Yoga, it has nothing to do with yoga and it is all about laughing. What do you mean I hear you say??……well let me explain.
Laughter Yoga is about laughing for no reason without judgement or the need for comedy, jokes or humour. As children we laugh often but as adults we tend to rely on other sources, be it TV, friends, partners or colleagues. Laughter Yoga gives you a safe space to reconnect with your own laughter.
The session involves lots of playful laughter exercises followed by a deep breath which is a simple breath in and out, this is done in-between each laughter session. We then finish with a short meditation and visualisation. There is no need for mats, gym clothes or sweatbands! We are just laughing so wear whatever you feel comfortable in.
The great news is that when we do the laughter exercises we benefit from a huge chunk of goodness for our body, mind and general well-being. You will discover how laughing elevates your mood, boosts your immune system and increases your energy.
Laughter re-connects us to our childlike qualities which maybe long forgotten and here’s a little science fact….the body cannot tell the difference between real and fake laughter, so we reap all the health benefits just for laughing.
Laughter Yoga is non-religious and non-political. The intention is to gather together for the sole purpose of laughing. It all started back in the 90's in India by Dr Madan Kataria with just 5 people in a Mumbai park, now there are thousands of Laughter Clubs in more than 100 countries.
We all need a good laugh and if we cannot laugh at ourselves then we are taking things waaaay too seriously. The Laughter Club runs regularly on Thursdays every two weeks and the cost is £5 which is paid on the day.
