What we're about

This is Laughter Yoga, it has nothing to do with yoga and it is all about laughing. What do you mean I hear you say??……well let me explain.

Laughter Yoga is about laughing for no reason without judgement or the need for comedy, jokes or humour. As children we laugh often but as adults we tend to rely on other sources, be it TV, friends, partners or colleagues. Laughter Yoga gives you a safe space to reconnect with your own laughter.

The session involves lots of playful laughter exercises followed by a deep breath which is a simple breath in and out, this is done in-between each laughter session. We then finish with a short meditation and visualisation. There is no need for mats, gym clothes or sweatbands! We are just laughing so wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

The great news is that when we do the laughter exercises we benefit from a huge chunk of goodness for our body, mind and general well-being. You will discover how laughing elevates your mood, boosts your immune system and increases your energy.

Laughter re-connects us to our childlike qualities which maybe long forgotten and here’s a little science fact….the body cannot tell the difference between real and fake laughter, so we reap all the health benefits just for laughing.

Laughter Yoga is non-religious and non-political. The intention is to gather together for the sole purpose of laughing. It all started back in the 90's in India by Dr Madan Kataria with just 5 people in a Mumbai park, now there are thousands of Laughter Clubs in more than 100 countries.

We all need a good laugh and if we cannot laugh at ourselves then we are taking things waaaay too seriously. Why don’t you come along and experience this fun packed insightful evening and see for yourself? This is a wonderful way to reap the health benefits, unleash your inhibitions and meet like- minded people.

The Laughter Club runs regularly on Thursdays every two weeks and the cost is £3 which is paid on the day.

Laughter Yoga

Friends Meeting House (Quaker Room)

£3.00

Welcome gigglers to the Laughter Yoga club based in Hertford. We get together every 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month for a good laugh. Yes, it is to literally laugh for no reason. The intention is to bring people together through laughter. It is for those who would like to try something new, bring more laughter into their lives, be silly and learn to take yourself lightly. Doors open at 6.55pm for a 7pm start and the session finishes around 8pm. The cost is £3 which is paid on the evening. During the session, we will be warming up with rhythmic clapping followed by Laughter Yoga exercises. This involves acting out daily activities using laughter as the language,(as we do not use the spoken word) this is then followed by a deep breath before moving onto the next exercise. Every session is different with group sizes ranging from 5 to 25! We all use eye contact during the exercises as this promotes genuine contagious laughter and group connection. During the close of the session we end with a laughter meditation, this may involve humming, breathing or laughing. Now I know what you're thinking,'This all sounds a bit strange!!' to be honest it is much easier to participate in a session than for me to try and explain it!! I personally like to think of laughter yoga as a workout for your internal organs. The health benefits include, mood booster, strengthens the immune system, gets your lymphatic system moving, increases your energy, builds confidence and connects you with others. You do not have to bring anything to the session apart from yourself and an open mind. You would benefit from loose-fitting clothing but it is not necessary. Just wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We are easy to find on Railway street with ample parking at Tesco and Gasgoyne Way. Both free after 6pm. Look forward to laughing with you. If you have any questions about the session, please contact me. Tracey :-) Guidelines: Please arrive on time. This is a safe space for individuals to explore laughter, therefore do not attend if you have consumed any drugs or alcohol. The minimum age for this group is 14 If you are committed to a date, please RSVP. Give yourself permission to have fun!
