Java HackKRK - The Cupcake Cipher Challenge!

  • Nov 6, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • Base Lab

A brand new HackKrk is coming up and this time it's all about Java!

So what's the story?

The Cupcake Cipher Challenge

The enemy is upon us! Our counterintelligence has identified a foreign spy inflitration. We call upon you!

Come help us hack the „cupcake cipher” the foreign spies use to communicate while undercover!

We’ll use your combined minds, Java coding chops and computing power to track down the enemy!

Here's the agenda for today.

We'll most likely finish earlier than 23:00. ;-)

18:00-18:15 Opening and Intro to Cupcake Cipher Challenge

18:15-20:15 Hacking Part I

20:15-21:00 Pizza and Networking

21:00-23:00 Hacking Part II

23:00 Closing and Awards :)

P.S. Make sure to bring your laptops with Java 8 installed! Food and drinks are on us! :)

Putting up the links to the video and pictures once again, cause Meetup doesn't make it easy to click on the urls. ;)

    It was awesome.
And thanks to Dropwizard/Java I had a Web service running and registered in a matter of minutes, for me learning about something like dropwizard was already a win ;-)

Great event and I didn't know infiltrating spies is so stressful ;)

Hi Bartek! Sure, here you go:

    1. We'll be coding an app to track down the communication between foreign spies. Java 8, RESTfull web services and some other cool stuff will be involved, but we do not want to give it all out before the event to keep some surprises for ya. :)

And one more thing - the challenge will come with a twist.

    2. Of course you can! Though, ideally, we recommend that everyone brings their own laptops, so that even if you're working in a team of 2, you can crunch some code in parallel.

    3. Nope, we haven't prepared for that. But it's a great idea! Will definitely take that into account in the future. :)

Could you tell us some more details about the programming task?
Can you come without a laptop and work with someoone else?
Is it possible to join in from home?

If you've never been to HackKRK here are videos from previous editions. :)
