Re: [Hacks-Hackers-Austin] Fwd: CoA Open Data Portal

That's right Elizabeth,

Open Austin has made important contributions to the passage of an Open Data Resolution this past year. As we move forward, we will be working closely with the City of Austin to build out a more robust catalog of datasets.

One of our major goals this year is to create and grow a community of data journalists, developers and community advocates. We encourage you to get involved with the Code For America Brigade that was launched on Tuesday (http://brigade.codeforamerica.org/) and Open Austin (http://open-austin.org/).

During the 2011 City Council elections, Open Austin developed an open data/open gov candidate questionnaire (http://open-austin.org/austin_city_council_voter_election_guide_2011.html). In my opinion, this questionnaire gave visibility to our cause/organization and, ultimately led to the passage of an open data resolution. As the 2012 City Council elections near, we will be rolling out an updated version. We welcome any ideas on defining what open data/open gov priorities policymakers should be considering.

Thanks,

Jace

More than likely coming from the Google Group for Open Austin or the Austin portion for Code for America (They have a brigade and you should join it)

If you have more questions, don't hesitate to reach out since this is initiative sponsored by the City of Austin Commission that I serve on (http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/boards/results.cfm?bid=51) and very interested in putting more data sets on the portal that people find useful.

Hi Karen,
Do you mind if I ask what the other mail list is? If it's public, it
may be something I'd be interested in joining.
Thanks,
