Want to meet interesting people and learn about open data? Of course you do. That's why Hacks/Hackers (http://hackshackers.com/) and Code4SA (http://www.code4sa.org) invites you to:
Open Data Speed Dating!
In honor of international Open Data Day, this coming Saturday 22 February.
Cape Town and Hacks/Hackers Johannesburg are joining forces with Code4SA for a data crunching experience without compare. Starting at 9.30am at JoziHub, in Johannesburg and Codebridge in Cape Town, we'll bring the data and the snacks, you just bring yourself and a laptop.
The idea is simple: coders, data wranglers and data investigators will pair up to look at one of three openly available datasets we have on hand, and work out the most interesting questions they can ask of it in less than half an hour. After 30 minutes, it's all change – another desk, another partnership, another exciting data set to turn into a story.
What we're hoping is that you'll learn tips and tricks for getting data, querying it, creating quick visualizations and turning it to stories that people want to know about. You'll learn from different people with a variety of skills, hopefully that you wouldn't normally work with. And we're also hoping it will be four hours of fun.
Join us from 9.30 to 13.30 at:
