Sunday, June 23rd, 2019 is our Annual Ancestor's Trail Hike along the Culham trail starting at Erindale Park in Mississauga.

Please register at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/ancestors-trail-hike-2019-tickets-55493544686 and we hope to see you on the trail. You can also join along the route, see http://ancestorstrail.ca for details and select the appropriate starting point in Eventbrite.

The theme for this year is the 'The Sixth Great Extinction' which, according to the best science available, we are perpetrating on our biosphere currently. The magnitude of loss of species at the current time and forseeable future fits all the criteria used to identify the previous 5 great extinctions that altered the course of evolution on earth. We are causing this directly by plundering the natural resources available to us as well as indirectly by changing local ecosystems as well as global chemistry by releasing fossilized carbon into the atmosphere. Awareness of the problem is the first step to finding solutions and directing our energies to support leaders who understand climate change and are willing to fight it.

Please arrive early to register and purchase Darwin t-shirts, CVC water-bottles and AAAS tote-bags. Wear confortable shoes for the 12.5k hike and apply/bring sunscreen and/or bug repellent if you need it. Most of the hike is under tree cover and along a scenic trail. We will have rest stops along the way with refreshments and washroom breaks. We will have a barbeque lunch at the end of the hike at Pine Cliff Park from where a bus will bring participants back to Erindale Park. Pets are welcome.

As in the past, we will be collecting any trash we find along the trail and depositing it in bins as we proceed.
