You can take all four routes or hangout in Merchants Square in between routes as we gather for hot chocolate, shopping, ice skating, cheese Shop-ing, and sightseeing.   • Hike- Newport News Park to Washington's HQ

    Newport News Park Discovery Center

    Explore these graciously wide and flat trails peppered with ramparts from battles past. Our 5-mile route takes us to the natural spring where George Washington camped 17000 French and Continental troops. Washington bombarded Cornwallis's army with over 50 cannons for six days before mounting a night attack to finish off the British stronghold along the river.   • Walk at West Neck

    West Neck Creek Natural Area

    See James H. Whitehurst's grave and stroll the trails of the adjacent West Neck Natural Area. Our guide will tell a brief history of the Whitehurst family who built their house here in 1793. The walk will be a flat 4-5 mile route with plenty of options. There is an aptly named "Muddy Trail" so waterproof footwear is best.     Come drink the cool-aid and fall in love with East Beach... We start by heading over to Pretty Lake Park, then out to the beach and through the coveted homes in the East Beach neighborhood.     Sand, water and woods. Take some cool strides at this winter hiking favorite. Sandy Bottom has an extensive trail system and is located in the middle of the Peninsula.   • Hike the biggest hill in VB- NEW LOCATION, Rite Aid

    Cape Henry Plaza

    Hike to the top of Virginia Beach's biggest hill. For new members who want to hike in Appalachia in the months to come, this is the qualifying hike. Carrying a suitable day pack for mountain trekking is required to qualify. It is 8 miles and it takes 3.5 hours with a few 5-10 minute breaks along the way. We have done our best to make this challenging but it's not quite the same as Appalachia. This hike is meant to be challenging. Hikers should come prepared for a challenging and hilly 10 miles.
