“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” ― Augustine of Hippo
Jakarta Book Club is back! This time, we want to try gathering on a Sunday... same time and place, just the day is a bit different.
Based on majority votes last month, we are going to discuss cities around the world that have captivated our thoughts and imagination. These places are usually described beautifully as a setting of a book, as a way to know where the writer drew his or her inspiration from. So, one city at a time... one book, one city...
The range is broad; it could be travel-related books, from travel journals to history books. Fiction and non fiction, English and Indonesian books are welcome.
Expect to hear review on books like "Lunch in Paris: A Love Story, with Recipes" written by Elizabeth Bard, "Rebel Cities: From the Right to the City to the Urban Revolution" written by David Harvey, "Wajah Bandoeng Tempo Doeloe" written by Haryoto Kunto, "Snow Country" written by Yasunari Kawabata, "Stroll: Psychogeographic Walking Tours of Toronto" written by Shawn Micallef, "Beautiful Ruins" written by Jess Walter, "The New York Trilogy" - a series of novels by Paul Auster, and "Passport to Happiness" written by our dear officer Aulia Halimatussadiah a.k.a. Ollie.
IMPORTANT NOTES: Since we have a number of books to be discussed this month, we need to keep each review short (3-5 minutes). We have a limited quota of participants. Don't forget to bring a valid ID card (KTP/ KITAS/ driver's license) to obtain an access card into the building. We will prioritize people who have RSVPed on this website or Facebook group to come in until 11:15. If you are on our waitlist, please be on standby at 11:15 to secure your spot.
AGENDA OF EVENT:
• book reviews & discussion
• book auction
• book swap (bring your old book and expect to bring home a "new" one)
• SPECIAL: Quiz to win Free Invitations to the Pre-Opening of Big Bad Wolf Books Sale on April 29.
The discussion will be moderated in English and Bahasa Indonesia. This event is independently supported by JBC officers.
