FAST FOOD DESIGN (or how we somehow got it all backwards)

Design is an ambiguous and poorly understood concept: anyone with access to Adobe creative cloud thinks themselves a designer.

The startup / agile movement demanded quick and iterative results: generators for logos and websites. But more often than not, these fast-food products don't cure your business challenge: they're a placebo at best, satisfying our immediate hunger but damaging our health. They were not 'designed' in the original sense of the word. It's our task as designers to restore the real potential and value of design for our clients and partners.

What is design? This question drives David Wieland through his daily operations at Grayscale. Paired with a strong curiosity and critical thinking, he strives to unlock the best out of his clients and projects.

David is Grayscale’s design lead and has coordinated the design and launch of over 40 web projects, among which for Swire Resources, HKU and Sun Hung Kai Financial. He is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague, and moved to Hong Kong in 2011.

If you have something to say, have a project you want to show off, need some front end or design advice, let us know and secure a lightning talk slot. We'd love to hear from you.

And it's freeeeeeee :)
