Please tell me about your interests in photography....

I want to show my friends and family members the places I travel and the beauty I experience near and far. Wildflowers are of interest. The Sierras too. Farmer's Markets. Wild animals and pets. Photos of family and friends seem endlessly interesting. For now, there is not enough time to pursue an interest in editing photos much. But, I love what I can do in Photoshop. There is so much more to explore when there is time for it.

What is your level of experience as a photographer?

Amateur, since around 1962. Well, I did sell one photo back in college. Some dark room work with negatives and printing. Beginning mastery of an SLR Ricoh -- forgotten over years of concentrating on other work. Many photos from nature and of family & friends. One wedding shoot. One of the first photos I remember taking was of my childhood pet, a dachshund, experiencing deep snow. In college, I worked several weeks at a small cafe in Ann Arbor to earn enough for a camera and a photo class. Watching a black and white or sepia toned photo appearing under the red light in the dark room was so much FUN. As a dedicated ludite related to the electronic and digital explosion, I stayed with film longer than most. Once I experienced the reward of instant images I excitedly joined the digital age of photography. When it comes to cameras, I have simple preferences for small, light-weight models that are easily taken on a backpack trip.

Are there any specific topics or subjects in digital photography that you would like to see me present?

This is not exactly specific to digital photography. Some photos evoke a numinous thrill. Do others in this group have that sense? Here is a discussion that would be of interest to me. What is it photos invoke? How do we each notice the differences in our relationships to various photos? What happens in a photo that elicits awe, offers nourishment of sorts and engages us? Can a photographer plan for this or is it serendipitous?

Introduction

Love of photography, mountains and volunteering led me to facilitate the Night Photography class in the White Mtns of CA taught by Harold Davis (2011), starring bristlecones, the Milky Way & stars. Sponsored by the Pt. Reyes Nat'l Seashore Assoc.
