Welcome to the first meeting of Savannah's Harry Potter and the Sacred Text discussion group! Inspired by the fabulous podcast of the same name (minus the Savannah bit), this is a group for Harry Potter enthusiasts who are inspired to use the books as a way to contemplate and interpret daily life. As Casper and Vanessa say, "...reading fiction doesn’t help us escape the world, it helps us live in it." By applying sacred reading practices to secular texts, we hope to dig deeper into Harry Potter than ever before and to discover whole new layers of meaning.
At this meeting we'll hammer out the basic details of future meetings. We'll decide how frequently to meet, discuss possible locations, whether or not to rotate who leads discussions and how to format them. Attendees will also be given a welcome packet of spiritual practice resources that explain the major practices we'll be applying to the texts. For Hermione's Granger acolytes who prefer to prepare in advance, these resources are from the Harry Potter and the Sacred Text website. The link follows. Please come with fresh ideas and suggestions about how you'd like the group to take shape.
Because this is a group forged from the path already paved by the HPST podcast, it is strongly recommended that you listen to at least one episode (not Owl Post!) before the meeting. You're in for a treat, I promise! Also, newbies to the Harry Potter books are very welcome. Be warned, though, there may be spoilers.
Feel free to message with any questions or concerns. Happy reading!
