Monadnock is a 3165 foot mountain in southern New Hampshire with its bare rock summit. This is a hike becomes rather strenuous and difficult the higher we go. This is not a beginner's hike! We are going to hike on the north side of the mountain. We will meet at the Pumpelly Trail Head on Lake Rd. We will be doing Pumpelly up and down. I am not planning a car pool but if group members want to work that out on thier own that would be great. I will meet everyone at the trail head at 9AM ready to hike. Grey subaru crosstrek with CT plates. Time will be an estimated 5 and 1/2 hours. Be prepared for changes of temperature and strong winds on the summit (you will be wet from perspiration so hypothermia is a concern). NO COTTON is acceptable for this hike and sturdy hiking boots required. Hiking poles are advised. Please dress in layers and have a wind jacket. Bring plenty of water and some foods containing protein and carbohydrates. The wind at the summit is also very strong so the temperatures are much less at the summit, up to 15 degrees cooler than at the base. We will hike at a moderate pace with small breaks when folks need them. Once we are on the mountain, no facilities are available. Pets are not permitted in the park or on the mountain. Please note that this law includes all trails and areas on Mount Monadnock. Greylock

Meet at trailhead at 9AM for a fun hike up Thunderbolt. So steep you'll be laughing all the way up. THIS IS A HIKE FOR EXPERIENCED FOLKS WHO ARE ABLE TO COMPLETE SIMILAR STYLE EVENTS. NO BEGINNERS OR FIRST TIME HAH FOLKS. We are hiking up the 3,491-ft. Mt. Greylock, the tallest peak in Massachusetts. The path we'll hike will be a looping hike of about 8 miles in length and with a roughly 2,248 ft. altitude gain. We will be starting in Greylock Glen on the east side of the mountain, following the Bellows Pipe Trail and connect to the Appalachian Trail (AT) to the peak. We will be going up Thunderbolt Trail, the old ski slope. Its a butt buster. We will lunch and take in the views at the peak. From the peak, we head south on the AT, then take Gould trail back to Greylock Glen. Greylock Glen will have bathroom facilities and there are bathroom facilities at the peak too. Hopefully the visitors center will be open. No cotton is acceptable for this hike. Hiking boots required. Hiking poles are advised. Please bring a pack, dress in layers and bring plenty of water and food containing protein and carbohydrates, sunscreen, bugspray. The summit may be windy and cooler so bring something warm to wear for the lunch break. We will hike at a moderate pace with small breaks when folks need them. The trail will be steep. Because the trail can be aggressive at times, you need to assess your dog's ability and plan on using a leash. No children. Directions: The trailhead can be reached by traveling south on Highway 8 from the town of North Adams. On the northern side of the town of Adams, bear right onto Friend Street, follow this Friend Street (which will become West Road), and then approximately 1.5 miles will be Thiel Road. Turn right onto Thiel Rd., pass through the Jaeschke's Apple orchards and into the Greylock Glen. Thiel Road continues straight past the intersection with Gould Rd. I want to start at the second parking area. If you drive up the hill, there is a parking area on the right. Go past that and around the corner. There will be another parking area on the right. http://www.mass.gov/eea/docs/dcr/parks/trails/greylock.pdf http://www.mass.gov/eea/docs/dcr/parks/trails/greytrailmiles.pdf We will stop for food after the event, but of course not required. --- Legal Stuff --- By clicking on "Yes" for this event you agree, warrant, and covenant as follows: In consideration for accepting this entry, I, the registrant, intending to be legally bound, hereby, for myself, my heirs, my executors and administrators, do waive and release any and all rights for damages I may have against any parties or persons connected with the Hartford Area Hiking meetup group for and related to the above listed event. • After Work Hike at Penwood SP, Bloomfield CT

    Penwood State Park

I am running my after work hikes for the season. Please know that these events are all levels-beginners welcome. The hikes are shorter and less technical from my normal weekend hikes. We finish before 8:00 p.m. Heading out to Penwood State Park in Simsbury for a 4 ish mile-2 hour after work hike. For this hike, my goal is for everyone to hike out the blue trail (it starts with a climb) and out to lake Louise and then back to the parking area (we will determine the return route then). We will meet in the first parking area. Now, I don't know what your GPS is going to say, but there is two parks right near each other on route 185 in Simsbury. You definitely want the Penwood site. There is a brown state park shield on the road. First parking area please-I will be there. Please bring a small pack with water, snacks, camera, whistle, bug spray. Boots or study shoes are always recommended. Yes there will be bugs and yes you will sweat. If you have a headlamp please bring it. Please no children. • After work Hike Castle Craig, Hubbard Park, Meridan CT

I AM RUNNING THE AFTER WORK HIKES AS ALL LEVELS. THIS ONE REQUIRES STURDY FOOTWEAR. WE WILL DO AND HOUR AND A HALF AROUND THE PARK. THE GOAL IS TO MAKE IT TO THE TOWER AND BACK TO CARS BEFORE 8:00. This park has the whole variety of terrain from groomed trails to aggressive climbs with loose rocks. We will climb and probably sweat. When you get off exit 4 on Rt. 691, there are signs to direct you to the park. As you head down the hill though, there is no great perpendicular sign to the park entrance. When you enter the park, the pond will be on your right. Park on the road at the back of the pond to keep your car in the shade. That area is where we are starting. There have not been port-o-potties. Most of the hike will be well traveled wide trails. There is climbing. If you want to get the view from the castle, you will have to earn it. The climb to the top loose rocks. Totally worth it though. I recommend hiking boots and a pack including water, snacks, layered clothing, whistle, bug spray, sunscreen. The park requires dogs to be on leashes. No kids. You must have a Meetup profile to attend. No guests please. http://www.meridenlandtrust.com/Hubbard_quad.pdf --- Legal Stuff --- By clicking on "Yes" for this event you agree, warrant, and covenant as follows: In consideration for accepting this entry, I, the registrant, intending to be legally bound, hereby, for myself, my heirs, my executors and administrators, do waive and release any and all rights for damages I may have against any parties or persons connected with the Hartford Area Hiking meetup group for and related to the above listed event. • Hike Alander, Brace, and Frissel, Mt. Washington Massachusetts

    Mt Washington State Forest Headquarters

This will be a 10 mile hike from the Mt. Washington State Park office in Mt. Washington Mass. We will hike up Mt. Alander, across the ridge to Brace and South Brace, and then down over Frissel, the high point in Connecticut. There is an option to shorten the distance if needed. This will be a thru hike. For that reason, please drive 2 more miles to the Northwest cabin parking area. We will shuttle folks to the trailhead beginning. And we finish back at the cabin parking area. Please assess your ability to complete the distance. We always hike at a reasonable pace. The terrain is rugged and the climb is around 1000' up to Alander. This area is known for rattlesnakes so we are very observant and stay on the trails. Please bring a pack with water, food, headlamp, hiking pole suggested due to the ups and downs, and hiking boots. There is a bathroom at the trailhead but not the parking. After the hike, a few of us are staying at the Northwest cabin that weekend. You are invited to bring food to share and join in a campfire at a beautiful location. You will need to bring your food in your own cooler. We will have camp stoves but keep it simple. We can't reheat a lasagna lol. Dogs are welcome if they are friendly and have hiked this distance previously. https://myhikes.org/trails/alander-mountain-trail https://hikethehudsonvalley.com/hikes/alander-mountain-ii/ --- Legal Stuff --- By clicking on "Yes" for this event you agree, warrant, and covenant as follows: In consideration for accepting this entry, I, the registrant, intending to be legally bound, hereby, for myself, my heirs, my executors and administrators, do waive and release any and all rights for damages I may have against any parties or persons connected with the Hartford Area Hiking meetup group for and related to the above listed event.
