If you get hooked on hiking in New Hampshire you may decide to complete hiking lists. The first one that people pursue are the 48 mountains in New Hampshire the are 4000' or taller (Mt. Washington is the tallest at 6288'). This year's hike will summit Mt. Eisenhower (4780') and Mt. Pierce (4310').
For this hike we will be ascending Edmands Path to the summit of Eisenhower. If we get a clear day you will be able to see up to Mt. Washington (the event cover photo shows this) and the southern presidential range. We will continue on this loop by descending and then climbing up Mt. Pierce.
The total distance for this event is 8 miles with 3000' of climbing.
My pin drop for Google maps is the parking area for the Crawford Path. When we see who decides to hike that day, we will organize the carpooling. The Edmands trailhead is 2.3 miles from that lot. We will finish hiking at the meeting spot and shuttle drivers to their cars.
Closer to the hike weekend I will organize a spot to have dinner (optional).
For this event you will need to travel to New Hampshire on Friday to stay over. If you are new to New Hampshire travel and are used to hotel chains, North Conway has all the big chains. It is rather pricey. I will be staying in the area of Franconia, Bethlehem, Littleton. There are a couple of Bed and Breakfasts you can checkout. If you click on the map and then on hotels you can see what is available near the trail head. A good point of reference is the AMC Highlands Center.
It is up to you to make your reservation. My suggestion is get lodging with easy cancellations. The travel distance from Hartford to Crawford Notch is about 3.5 hours without stops. Use the pin on the map to see your travel time to the trail head.
Training hikes for these bigger mountains has already begun. Please know that I do not run the New Hampshire events like the local ones. It is on you to have watched the video I recorded (its on the calendar for July 19), have correct gear, have trained to climb high mountains (with or without me). The NH hikes do not run like standard group hikes. You hike your hike, your speed. If you attend enough of the training events you may connect with other hikers who have similar abilities.
Please reach out to me if you have questions. I do not want anyone to waste time traveling that far away to find they are not prepared.
