The Kūlepiamoa Ridge Loop hike (aka Kulepeamoa Loop) begins in Pia Valley between Hawai'i Loa and Kuliouou and sharply ascends the middle ridge that splits Niu Valley down the middle peaking on the spine of the Ko'olau Ridge at 2,519 ft 2.5 miles from our start. The hike then traverses west on the Ko'olau Summit Ridge Trail for 4/10ths of a mile to the Hawai'i Loa Ridge summit, which we descend to a cut-off trail that drops back down to the Pia Valley Stream which we follow back to where we started.

Skill Level: ADVANCED
Difficulty: Strenuous. Wild, overgrown and steep trails.
Elevation Gain: 2200 ft
Recommendations: Shoes with good grip, microspikes (store.hawaiihikinggroup.us), long pants, gloves, hat, sunscreen, lunch, 2.5-3L (100 oz) of water.
