This route takes us up the Hahaione Trail to the iconic Pyramid Rock overlooking East Honolulu and Waimanalo. On our way east towards Mariners Ridge we will summit at least 4 "peaks" each offering views more spectacular than the previous. Our return route takes us on the upper Mariners Ridge Trail before diverging on a rugged trail back down to Hahaione.
Don't let the short mileage fool you into thinking this is an easy hike.
Trail length: 2.2 miles
Duration: 3.5 hours
Skill level: Intermediate+
Elevation gain: 1062 ft
Highest elevation: 1477 ft
Shade-Exposure ratio: 60/40
Difficulty: HARD. Strenuous uphill cardio. Steep downhill which can be slippery.
Recommendations: gloves, broad hat, sunscreen, bug repellant, shoes with good grip, hiking spikes (store.hawaiihikinggroup.us), 2 liters of water, snack, hiking stick if you use one.
Park on Hahaione St, taking care not to park within 4 feet of any driveway. Please avoid arriving with radio blaring and slamming car doors, and any conversation until you go 25 feet up the trail at the end of the street. We will meet up the trail and not on the street. For that reason it will be a good idea to apply bug repellant.
