Procrastination is Not The Problem! If you're not writing as much as you'd like - you may think you have a problem with procrastination. "Not so," says Lynn. The inner lives of writers are creative, complicated, and multifaceted. Each of is is unique. There is no "one size fits all" writing practice - but there are some common inner states that can keep us from writing. In this discussion we'll explore some possibilities that may help explain your own non-writing habit, so you can stop stopping yourself, and create a productive, prolific and creative writing practice that works for you. Lynn is currently working on a project to help writers who aren't writing as much as they'd like. If that sounds like you, consider taking Lynn's 5-minute research survey to help inform her work in progress. Message Sin City Cinephile for the link or check HWG's Facebook page. Lynn Dickinson holds Master’s Degrees in Professional Writing, Communications Management, (both from USC), and Spiritual Psychology (from the University of Santa Monica). She teaches Media Studies at Santa Monica College, and has had both nonfiction, (Living Well in a Nursing Home, Everything You and Your Folks Need to Know), and fiction, (Brother Haters Anonymous), books published, along with multiple screenplay options. Her interests include comedy, spirituality, and Getting Writers Writing! Lynn currently resides in Santa Monica California with her husband, her mostly-off-at-college daughter, two affectionate-when-they’re-hungry cats, and a ridiculous dog. Regular monthly meeting includes brief up-date, group business, announcements, officer reports and brags. Followed by member discussions of the book of the month. BOOK TITLE: I'll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara For more than ten years, a mysterious and violent predator committed fifty sexual assaults in Northern California before moving south, where he perpetrated ten sadistic murders. Then he disappeared, eluding capture by multiple police forces and some of the best detectives in the area. Three decades later, Michelle McNamara, a true crime journalist who created the popular website TrueCrimeDiary.com, was determined to find the violent psychopath she called "the Golden State Killer." Michelle pored over police reports, interviewed victims, and embedded herself in the online communities that were as obsessed with the case as she was. I’ll Be Gone in the Dark—the masterpiece McNamara was writing at the time of her sudden death—offers an atmospheric snapshot of a moment in American history and a chilling account of a criminal mastermind and the wreckage he left behind. It is also a portrait of a woman’s obsession and her unflagging pursuit of the truth. Utterly original and compelling, it has been hailed as a modern true crime classic—one which fulfilled Michelle's dream: helping unmask the Golden State Killer.
