We are going to see Ken Loach's new film - "I, Daniel Blake" at The Odyssey on Wednesday 30th November - and have a drink beforehand at The Great Northern which is right next door.
"I, Daniel Blake" has had good reviews. It's fair to say that it isn't light hearted - it's described as 'hard hitting' by The Standard but it does, according to The Guardian have the potential to 'make things change' - there's a brief synopsis below.
Tickets have been released today by The Odyssey and my guess is that this will be a sell-out so don't hang around! We are sitting upstairs in seats D 13 and 14 if you want to sit somewhere near us but don't feel obliged! We'll be in the pub from around 6.30pm, see the film (which starts at 7.30) and go for a quick drink afterwards - really hope to see you there.
Daniel Blake (59) has worked as a joiner most of his life in Newcastle. Now, for the first time ever, he needs help from the State. He crosses paths with a single mother Katie and her two young children, Daisy and Dylan. Katie's only chance to escape a one-roomed homeless hostel in London has been to accept a flat in a city she doesn't know, some 300 miles away. Daniel and Katie find themselves in no-man's land, caught on the barbed wire of welfare bureaucracy as played out against the rhetoric of 'striver and skiver' in modern day Britain.
