I, Daniel Blake at The Odyssey, St Albans

We are going to see Ken Loach's new film - "I, Daniel Blake" at The Odyssey on Wednesday 30th November - and have a drink beforehand at The Great Northern which is right next door.

"I, Daniel Blake" has had good reviews.  It's fair to say that it isn't light hearted - it's described as 'hard hitting' by The Standard but it does, according to The Guardian have the potential to 'make things change' - there's a brief synopsis below.

Tickets have been released today by The Odyssey and my guess is that this will be a sell-out so don't hang around!  We are sitting upstairs in seats D 13 and 14 if you want  to sit somewhere near us but don't feel obliged!  We'll be in the pub from around 6.30pm, see the film (which starts at 7.30) and go for a quick drink afterwards - really hope to see you there.

Olivia

Daniel Blake (59) has worked as a joiner most of his life in Newcastle. Now, for the first time ever, he needs help from the State. He crosses paths with a single mother Katie and her two young children, Daisy and Dylan. Katie's only chance to escape a one-roomed homeless hostel in London has been to accept a flat in a city she doesn't know, some 300 miles away. Daniel and Katie find themselves in no-man's land, caught on the barbed wire of welfare bureaucracy as played out against the rhetoric of 'striver and skiver' in modern day Britain.

Hi, at The Rex cinema (same owners) they operate a raffle system where they hold back a certain number of tickets each film and then raffle them at 7pm on the night. I've usually been able to get tickets like this so it might be an option? You have to put your name down for the raffle before 7pm though and then be there when they draw it...

That's really helpful - thanks Julia! Really hope that works for anyone who hasn't got a ticket.

Oh no.... I've said I'm coming but have just realised the tickets are sold out! I'll come along for the drink instead and maybe there'll be some send back tickets on the night. V

Oh no! What a shame - do come along for drink and let's cross our fingers that there's a spare ticket for you. It will be good to meet you either way.

Hi, it was good to meet a few of you the other week. I won't be able to make it to this one as I'm busy Wednesday evenings but hope to join you for another film soon.

I'd love to come as I enjoyed meeting everyone last time and this film looks great. Might be a slim chance I'd be back by 7.30, but only if a miracle occurred on the M25!!

Hi Denny - there are loads of tickets left so hopefully it won't be a sell out so really hope you can just turn up. We'll hope for a miracle!
