You may not have a dedicated UX researcher on your team, but it never hurts to *think* and *capture* like a researcher!

Join us at Schlumberger Tuesday evening for a presentation and interactive group activity to explore the research side of UX! Our presenter, Ryan West, will walk us through the art of capturing artifacts for research quickly and effectively, especially if your strong suit is not wire-framing or drawing.

After his presentation, we will divide up into groups to walk through a mini UX research process. You will be able to try to capture your own artifacts as a team through a contextual interview, a process journey, and follow up research and strategic items.

Agenda:
6:30 - 7:00 Mix and Mingle with *free* pizza and refreshments!
7:00 - 7:20 Research Presentation by experienced researcher and Houstonian, Ryan West.
7:20 - 8:20: Mini UX Research Group Breakout Sessions
8:20 - 8:30: Wrap up

More details to come on our speaker and parking!

This event is sponsored by Schlumberger, a recognized leader in the energy space. Schlumberger is committed to a user-centered approach to all of their product design and development initiatives.

About Ryan:
I have been facilitating Design Thinking and User Research for the past 5 years and before that, I worked in company structure, change management, and organizational behavior. I have an extensive background in design and have worked as a freelance designer since my first college design course in 2007.

My favorite thing is collaboration and problem-solving. I am a huge behavior economics and psychology nerd and will quietly pick apart decisions and motivations until there is an accurate picture of the user and how they align with the company’s goals and objectives.

In the field of UX, I fit best into a position of Design Thinking, Research, Discovery, and Solution Finding.

Using the tools of Design Thinking and Research, I solve complex problems relating to User Experience, Customer Experience, and internal Culture Experience. Having a sharp skill set in change management and having done more than 1000 one-on-one user interviews, I am able to help an organization run more efficiently, gain a greater market share, and be a design-forward company.

Design Thinking Workshops are a mainstay to my skill set and I have facilitated dozens of workshops that help teams focus and develop a user and design-centered mindset. Using organizational and change management, I am able to take the design artifacts from workshops and turn them into real company change.

I’m an active swimmer and have a goal to live healthy for 100 years. I am a classically trained pianist and play with local music ensembles. And just for fun, I regulate and tune pianos, remodel houses, garden, and refinishing mid-century modern furniture.

My house is full of mid-century furniture; if you want to purchase some chairs, let me know. My wife would be happy to unload some of our MCM chairs. As our house is full of chairs - I have a serious problem and need professional help.
