Have you ever wanted to see the Chicago River turn green from another vantage point? Me too!

3rd annual event for hiyak adventures.
Let's meet at Ping Tom Park and kayak up to the river dyeing route. It's about 3 miles to get there, so we'll start early as they will start to dye the river at 9AM and we can help churn the secret ingredient.

Scheduled for 9:00 am, Saturday March 16, 2019 the dyeing can be best viewed from the East side of Michigan Avenue, the West side of Columbus Drive, or upper and lower Wacker Drive between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive.

DETAILS:
Land distance: portage ± 500m
Water distance: 6 miles
What to wear: Green layers!

What to bring: snacks and a waterproof camera, change of clothes and towel in dry bag, warm layers (not cotton).

Required cold weather gear: change of clothes, including another set of gloves/hat/coat, and towel in dry bag, PFD. If anyone falls in, need to get them to shore quickly and into dry clothes. This should not be a life threatening situation since we will always be close to shore, but it is fairly extreme conditions (and would be very uncomfortable). Other issue to worry about is getting wet as you paddle and getting very cold, and having to abort. Paddling gloves and water proof or resistant clothing recommended.

Very Hot meal to follow afterwards at Nearby restaurant!

* Note, the entrance to PING TOM PARK is deep to the back of condos. Hopefully we can drive in, crossing railroad tracks and park on far right side near REI kayak rental building. Be prepared
however to portage your kayak a long distance if we cannot drive to site.

AGAIN BE SURE TO BE THERE AT 7:45 am !

"Free parking "can be found at Wentworth ( near Field House) and cross street is 18th. Then walk south on Wentworth , turn right on 19th street and walk about 1/2 mile, cross railroad tracks and turn right. takes 15-20 minutes to walk from Field House.
