Come explore Blue Mountain Park on this evening hike. We will hike approximately 4-5 miles at a moderate pace on a mixture of woods roads and hiking trails. This is not a flat hike, and does involve some climbing, nothing major though compared to other parks in the area.
There are multiple parking lots make sure you meet us at the correct one, see instructions below.
Distance: 4-5 miles
Terrain: Generally easy, however this will not be a flat hike and will involve more hill climbing than our hikes in Croton point park and the OCA.
Dogs: Friendly, well behaved dogs are welcome, but should be on a leash or strict control of the owner. Owners should find out and respect the rules of the park, and follow requests made by the organizer.
With our daylight hours limited please arrive on time, we will be leaving promptly.
What to bring
Bring flashlight (we will be out of the park by dusk, but as sunset is getting earlier - 8.25 pm we will likely be hiking out during twilight with deminishing light), water, something to snack on, insect repellent and anything else you need to enjoy the hike. You should wear hiking boots or hiking sneakers.
Directions and meeting point
Route 9 north or south to Welcher Ave. Welcher Ave is in the southern part of Peekskill. Take Welcher Ave exit east. Go straight across Washington St to the park entrance (two short blocks after crossing Washington), just after the parking toll booth bear left. Follow the road to the end into a parking area where we will meet. The parking lot is about 1/2 mile from the entrance of the park.
I will be monitoring the weather prior to the hike and if conditions are not good the hike is subject to cancellation. Please make sure to check your email/site prior to leaving for the hike, cancellation notices will be sent prior to 5 pm if required.
