We will be exploring: Michael Ciaiola Conservation Area (previously the Walter G.Merritt park) on this discovery hike (http://hiking.meetup.com/370/pages/Discovery_Hike). This park has some nice gorges and waterfalls, with a mixture of relatively flat and moderately steep trails. We will hike about 5 miles at a moderate pace.
Friendly, well behaved dogs are welcome, but should be on a leash (6ft or less).
As this is a discovery hike with a small parking lot, we are limiting participation to 15 people, so be sure you can definitely attend before saying yes. Prior to RSVP'ing please make sure you understand the group's guidelines for Attendance and RSVP etiquette (http://hiking.meetup.com/370/pages/RSVP_and_attendance).
Take route 22 north to the intersection with CR-68/Haviland Hollow Rd (about 6.5 miles north of I-84). Turn right and drive 2.4 miles east. Just before a turn in the road/little bridge turn left into the parking area. Note parking is limited (about 10 cars) so we recommend you car pool if possible. If parking lot is full go about 0.1 miles past the park entrance and park on the wide shoulder (park at a diagonal to ensure everyone will fit).
What to bring
Bring water, lunch/something to snack on, and anything else you need to enjoy the hike. You should wear hiking boots, and remember to dress in layers and bring enough clothing for the conditions. Although it should be warming up by then we still recommend no cotton or jeans for your comfort and overall safety of the group. The trails may be muddy in spots so we would suggest having hiking poles with you as a precaution.
We will be monitoring the weather prior to the hike and if conditions do not look good, the hike is subject to cancellation. Please make sure to check your email/site prior to leaving your house the morning of the hike, cancellation notices will be sent prior to 11 am if required
