Come join me for an intermediate level hike in Black rock forest. The planned loop includes Black Rock Mountain, Spy rock, Eagles cliff, Split rock and Sutherland pond. I would also like to include the loop up Rattlesnake hill if the weather conditions allow. We will be hiking on a mixture of hiking trails and woods roads, with a few steep hill climbs intermingled with more level terrain. There are some rocky sections along the way too. On our return route we will cool off at Sutherland pond, the only pond in the park where swimming is allowed, so bring your swim gear.
Distance: ~ 9-10 miles
Pace: Moderate, but we will spend time relaxing and enjoying the views and lake. This is not a hike for beginners, only for regular hikers that can keep a moderate pace.
Dogs: No dogs please.
This is a Members only hike, writing +1 in your RSVP does not mean you have signed up a guest for the event.
Parking is very limited, so carpool with other members if possible. The parking is located on the right hand side of Mine Hill road, just past a hair pin bend. It is just after Sky Drive and Hawksnest Road. We will likely need to double park with others in our group.
After hike potluck
If there is enough interest (let me know when you RSVP) we will have a group potluck after the event. There are some picnic tables a couple of miles down the road from the trailhead.
