If you have experience with depression you have probably read or been told that depression is a permanent condition that you have to live with. This is also one of the biggest lies your mind will tell you while you are depressed. While you may be always be susceptible to depression, the reality is that people are breaking out of depressive episodes all the time, and are capable of living happy and fulfilling lives through finding root causes (biological and situational). Its not always easy but it can be done. Hiking in nature is one of the many tools to help while you're on your journey to heal.
The purpose of this group is to get people together who experience depression of all types (along with other mood disorders), discuss issues, enjoy the moment, and set the intention to get better. The plan is to have group hikes on Sundays in various locations around the Bay Area. In my experience, things like being in nature, getting exercise, being able to relate to others, and having fun with good people have always helped me when I was severely depressed, even when I thought they couldn't... I'm trying to bring all of these things together, hence creating this Meetup group.
