Our last hike of 2013, by popular demand! Get some fresh air before the New Years celebrations. This is a good hike to bring families and out of town guests.
Location: Latta Plantation Nature Preserve (Charlotte/Mecklenburg County), For Park info: Click HERE
Description: We'll meet at the Latta Plantation Nature/Visitor Center at 9:45am and start hiking at 10:00. We will traverse parts of several trails in the Preserve to create an easy-to-moderate out and back loop. The trails will pass through sections of woods and open spaces. The hike will take 2 hours +/-.
- Each hiker is responsible for their water and snacks.
- Dogs ARE allowed, but must be on a six foot leash.
- Remember to arrange carpool where possible. Use the Discussion Board post on carpooling for more info.
Directions to the Latta Plantation Nature/Visitor Center:
Traveling north on I-77: Take Exit 16B, Sunset Road West. Follow Sunset Rd. West until the second light and turn right onto Beatties Ford road. Proceed north for 4.8 miles until you reach Sample Road (directly across from Hopewell Presbyterian Church). Turn left on Sample Road (it’s a narrow break in the stone wall).
Traveling south on I-77: Take Exit 23, Huntersville. Turn right off the exit to Gilead Road. Take the third left, McCoy Road. At the stop sign, turn right on Beatties Ford Road. Turn left on Sample Road (it’s a narrow break in the stone wall).
Once in the park, go about half a mile. Just past the Nature Center and turn right on the gravel road and park at the "Horse Trailer" lot, then walk over to the center and we'll go from there.
NOTE: We will get together for lunch at Lancaster's after the hike, if anyone's interested. They have the best bbq and fried chicken in the area and is worth the visit; beer and drinks are available, too. Hope to see you there!
