This is the mystery of this hike, this valley between Pacifico & Bare, it's going to be a Doooozy! :)
PLAN B HIKE: Here's a hike I've been wanting to do for awhile, and is a great time to chalk it up before this area becomes an oven during the summer months. I've been to Pacifico Mountain, but I haven't done Bare Mountain but it totally looks doable or we'll at least go for it!!! ;)
Pacifico Mountain (7,124):
Pacifico Mountain is a the most prominent peak in the northwestern San Gabriel Mountains with extensive views of the San Gabriels, Mojave and the western Transverse Ranges. It has a prominence of P1610 making it the fourth most prominent peak in the entire range. On it's granite boulder covered summit is a nice small campground.
BARE MOUNTAIN (6,388):
Bare Mountain is likely named based on its appearance, sparsely covered with chaparral with no trees. There is an old shooting range at Pinyon Flats, but I don't think is is active anymore. The signs were all shot up and lying on the ground.
So that's it, No Problem....Riiiight! :)
Take the I-210 freeway to La Canada andtake the Angeles Crest Highway (SR-2). Drive north SR-2 for 9.5 miles to a junction with Angeles Forest Highway. Turn left go 14.2 miles to Mill Creek Summit. Park here on the eastside of the highway picnic area...
We can park on the dirt spot on the intersection of Angels Forest Highway (Co Highway N3) and Pacifico Mountain Road (Forest Service Road 3N17)
What to Bring:
Poles (Not needed, but recommended)
Layers of Clothing (Might be cooler in the morning and at the top)
A BIG heart for Success
and more and more Water!!!
