Mount Wilson Trail head

Mira Monte · Sierra Madre, CA

How to find us

Near Trail Head for Mt Wilson/Lizzie's

Location image of event venue

This route to Wilson offers a killer workout along with a lot of Vitamin D so come prepared! (get the gain of Baldy without the altitude and wind/cold)

Directions and Parking~

The hike starts in a nice residential hood next to a park with a bathroom in the city of Sierra Madre. To get there exit Baldwin off the 210. Go North on Baldwin to Mira Monte and then turn Right or East. Look for the little Mt Wilson store 2 blocks down and park. Read the signs regarding parking. I know it is free but I do not know their street cleaning or trash schedule.

Hike Stats~

Advanced! On a 1-10 I give it a 8.2

Elevation gain 4800’ – U get TONS of gain w/o the drama of altitude-An ideal training hike for those of us that do not get along with altitude-that would be me. :)

Milage-14-15. So many websites quibble about this! Either way that is a long hike!!

Style-Out and back

Pace-Moderate- 7am-1400

BTW the views are spectacular when clear.

Stuff to bring

Trail can be hot and exposed at times and has annoying gnats that party near your face sometimes-more common on the chantry route though. Do bring food as the café at the top will be closed. Water is available at the summit but bring at least 2 liters for the trip up and lastly Yogi bear lives here too. Bear spray and whistles for safety are good. Sunblock and hats are also highly recommended.

Carpooling is what all the cool kids are doing.

This hike will be canceled if it is too hot.
