We will be backpacking THE CALIFORNIA HIKING AND RIDING TRAIL for three days and two nights. This is a beautiful desert experience that travels a well maintained trail for 37.5 miles across Joshua Tree National Park. Total overall gain and loss estimated at 3500'/1200'. You must be an experienced, self-sufficient backpacker conditioned to travel an estimated 12 miles per day. I traveled this trail with a group in 2018 and loved it so much I'm doing it again in the reverse direction. It involves a 30 MILE CAR SHUTTLE & WATER STASH. We will meet at the Black Rock Campground and Ranger Station to leave as many vehicles as possible. Then carpool through the park to setup our water caches and make our way to just inside the North Entrance of the park to begin our adventure.

The National Park Entrance/Exit fee is $30 per vehicle. There are NO backcountry camping fees.

The highest elevation point on the trail is 5150'. This is a desert trek with lots of level travel and then rolling sections through the mountains. TEMPERATURES will vary greatly! It could be in the mid 30s at night and 80s during the days. PLEASE BE PREPARED FOR THESE CHANGING TEMPERATURES and any adverse weather than may arise.
