I do this trail to keep in shape during the week. It's a great workout! I find if I do the B&G at least twice a week, the bigger hikes get much easier! There are two routes: The Schuler Trail and then an unnamed trail that goes to the left. The left trail is much steeper and harder, so I take that one on the way up and I come down the Schuler Trail because it's easier on the knees. The B&G is also a great trail for running also.
I recommend bringing at least a liter of water and a headlamp. This hike is about 3 miles round trip now that the top section is not accessable.
Directions: We don't actually start at the original Bump and Grind location. To get to the Mike Schuler Trailhead just take Fred Waring all the way to where it ends in Palm Desert. Then take a left and you will see many cars parked and a large sign. This is behind the Target Shopping Center in Palm Desert, which is right near Highway 111 and Fred Waring.
