Spring Celebration
You are welcome to come along and take part of spring celebration on the Coromandel Coast on this epic 3 day adventure, through brush, coastal/rocky and beach experience.... Plan: For Friday, 5th of Oct.You have an option A or B. Option A: Meet at Birdcage CBD at 11 am to drive down with me to get to Coromandel (Bowentown Heads). Get there between 3-4 pm. Explore the coast line, do some short walks and walk a bit on Waihi Beach. Have shared picnic/take aways on the beach and watch sunset. Option B: Drive to Coromandel on Friday evening after work and meet the group on Saturday morning 10 AM start. Please choose carefully which option you pick as your decision will impact on car pooling. Plan for Saturday, 6th of Oct: Everybody meets at 10 AM at the start of Waihi beach, near Rapatiotio Point. Drive along Waihi Beach Rd, then turn left at the intersection of Waihi Beach Rd and Wilson Rdand drive to the end of the road. Park closest to the beach, to the start of the track. We will follow Orokawa bay track, William Wright Falls track, then Homunga bay track, visiting and exploring Homunga Bay and up North if possible. Return back to the cars the same way. The walk it self is about 10-12km and should be completed in in 3-4 hrs. I'm allowing for extra time for swimming and exploring the bay, so could take up to 6 hrs. This will take 4-5 hrs to complete, including stops, swimming and playing games on the beach. After our adventure, we will drive to Waihi village (small drive around 10 min). Park at the end of Golden Valley Rd. Do some exploring and small walk around Waihi walkway which includes Black Hill. Around 5-6 PM have shared dinner at Waihi village. Sunday Plan 7th of Oct: 10 AM start. From Waihi beach it's a small drive to Waiharakeke (Wangamata range). Park at the end of Parakiwai Quarry Rd. We will hike Wharekirauponga walk, along the stream, roughly about 10 km, 3-4 hrs. This is a one way hike, so we come back the same way. Then 10 min drive to Wentworth Valley Rd to hike Wentworth falls walk, and Whangamata track. 6-7 km (2-3 hrs). Finish around 5 P.M. If driving back to Auckland, expect to arrive between 7-8 P.M. What to bring and do: You are responsible for your own safety and booking your own accommodation during your stay in Coromandel. I have booked airbnb. Other options include Waihi beach holiday park, motels, and Bowentown holiday park. If car pooling with others, please bring $40 cash to contribute to your driver. Bring change of clothes, food, water, first aid items, swimming gear, wet suits, games to play on the beach and personal items. Level of difficulty: Moderate fitness required, as there will be some muddy , uneven sections on the trails and steep as well. Some rock scrambling may be required but not necessary. See you on Friday, Kristina.

    What we're about

This is the group for people interested in hiking and exploring New Zealand. The main focus will be on covering North Island with possibility in doing longer trips around South Island in the future. This group is for fit experienced hikers who have previously done a few hikes and who can keep up with the group at medium pace and can complete up to 7-8 hour hike in a day ok with the group. I plan to organise some camping trips as well but mainly day hikes at this stage. Hikes will vary, from coastal, streams and bush. There will be a lot of hill climbing and rock scrambling along the tracks.
