This group is for experienced hikers who have previously done a few hikes and can keep up with the group at a medium pace. Members should be comfortable to complete a 7-9 hour hike in a day. The main focus will be on covering North Island and longer trips further afield. To get outdoors and experience the splendours of New Zealand. Hikes and walks will vary in nature and may include hill climbing, rock scrambling, stream crossing, coastal tracks and camping. Waihi Beach to Homunga Bay walkway

The Birdcage Tavern

Greetings everyone, You are invited to join this spectacular walk with stunning views of Waihi and surrounding bays, for the brave souls-a swim could be an option also :))) This hike is suitable for Intermediate level hikers, who can hike at a medium pace and complete this hike within 6-7 hrs. Plan for the day: 8 AM: Everyone to meet outside Birdcage cafe to meet and greet and organize car pooling. 10.45 AM: The whole group to meet at the car park, at Waihi Beach. Introductions, briefing, photo. 11 AM: Start the hike. 3-4 PM: Stop for an afternoon break, have snacks, rest for 30 min, probably at Homunga Bay, which will also be our turn around point. 6-7 PM: Complete the hike, return back to the car park. 10 PM: Estimated time to arrive back to Auckland, CBD. What to bring: 2 LT of water, plenty of snacks such as nuts, energy/muesli bars, fruits, dried fruits, and what ever else you feel will keep you going. First aid items, camera, waterproof jacket, warm clothes, change of clothes and shoes and hiking boots. If you require a ride, please also bring $30.00 to give to your driver. This needs to be paid at the start and paid in cash. Driving directions to the start of the hike: Getting there Orokawa Bay is located north of Waihi Beach, off State Highway 2 at the end of Waihi Beach road. Hump Ridge and Rakiura Tracks

This is to confirm numbers for the hikes. Option to attend 1 or both walks. Please respond when you RSVP. Need to book Rakiura great walk huts/ campsite at your end for me to move to the going list. The bookings are open. No need to book Hump Ridge track as I can do a combined booking on 11 June. The 3 day loop Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track has been confirmed to be a Great Walk by 2022. Walk details as follows: • 29 Jan: Reach Invercargill. Night stay. • 30 Jan: Rarakau car park to Okaka Lodge (night stay), 22 kms, 7-9 hrs • 31 Jan: Okaka Lodge to Port Craig Lodge (night stay), 20 kms, 7-9 hrs • 1 Feb: Port Craig Lodge to Rarakau car park, 20 kms, 5-7 hrs. Night stay in Invercargill • 2 Feb: Visit Bluff and Bluff Hill. Night stay in Invercargill. This will be followed by Rakiura Great Walk in Stewart Island. This too is a 3 days walk. Details as follows: • 3 Feb: 15 mins flight from Invercargill to Stewart Island. Start Rakiura Great Walk.
