Interested in hiking? Want to learn mindfulness skills and other information for self-improvement? This group will combine a hike with guided mindfulness practices, including a longer meditation or brief presentation on a mental health topic at the half-way point. While most of the principles and practices will come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), this is not therapy. We're about community and growing in greater awareness of our humanity.
Each hike will be "structured," in the sense of being focused on a topic and include a mindful practice, topic of discussion or point for contemplation. Any mindful practice can be done as long as you'd like, but will only be facilitated about 10-20 minutes of each hike.
All topics related to psychology and the human experience are welcome. If there is one you'd especially like covered, please private message me and I will let you know when the topic is scheduled.
Dogs are welcome, but please check ahead to make sure they are allowed on the trails (I'll try to pick ones that allow) and please comment that you're bringing one so others are aware. Also be trail conscious and pick up after them.
Some hiking locations may require a Discover Pass or NW Forest Pass. I will try to note when these may be needed. You don't need one and can pay at the location, but I highly recommend as such funds help support our forests.
Mindfulness activity worksheets, exercise routines, maps and other information will be posted in a Dropbox folder for members, with link posted in discussion.
After a month trial, there is a low membership due. This is to cover time for planning, resources being given and help with building the group through future speakers and building other events. I want you to get great value out of belonging here. If you fail to set up a payment, Meetup will automatically remove you after the trial. You absolutely can immediately rejoin, but will be prompted to pay.
