Last time we did this hike, it was a success and all of us had fun! We got to sit around the fire pit at the Notch and listen to live music. The hike down in the full moon was OUTSTANDING! If you've never seen the mountains by the light of a full moon, you are missing out BIG TIME.
This hike is schedule for 3 days after the night of the full moon - according to the Farmer's Almanac: http://www.almanac.com/moon/full/CA/Los+Angeles
Full moon is actually on May 14, so we should still get a lot of light by Saturday evening? We will meet at Manker Flats at 6pm and start up at 6:30pm. The hike is a 3.6 mile hike to the Notch. I would consider it intermediate level. It is on a fire road, so there is less chance of getting lost in the dark. The elevation gain is 1200' over 3.6 miles.
The Baldy Notch WILL be open again! AND they will have bbq and live music.
Please make sure your dog is WELL-socialized toward other dogs and especially humans. You are responsible for your own dog! Please keep at LEAST one eye on your dog(s) at all times. There will be others using the trail (possibly) and definitely others at the Notch. Since we will have dogs, we will be sitting on the patio. At the Notch, you MUST have your dog on-leash.
When we come back down, it will be night. Please bring the following:
1) flashlight or headlamp
2) neck light for your dog (if they will be off-leash)
3) a jacket!!! (Muy importante!!)
4) a HAT (if you really want to stay warm).
No need to hike up wine or cheese this time, since the Notch kitchen will be open.
Friday - 11am to 10pm
Saturday - 8am to 10pm
Sunday - 8am to 6pm
(Closing times are for the kitchen, the Notch stays open for drinks, snacks and downhill tickets until the lift shuts off)
BBQ at the Notch is a little pricey. But they also have a menu of appetizers and drinks available. One time we hiked up, we brought our own bottles of wine, and the Notch bartender let us borrow wine glasses. If you want to do that, post a comment. I'm sure others will too!
I am not sure who will be playing this evening, but as soon as I find out, I will post it.
The LAST chair down on the lift is 11pm, so the Notch will stay open til 11pm. Doubt if we will stay that long, but you never know.
